Could it be that the bulls are now behaving themselves instead of taking things personally? After all the bears have been used to rising house prices for a long time so they wont take it to heart as much.

    Anyone else see this?

I think the board has seriously degraded since last year.
At least back then there was a chance of a decent discussion or debate.

Nowadays it decends into jokes (ok Mewbie has apparently left now), bullying (so say some), stalking (so say some), etc etc etc

were you not able to answer his question (again) and that's why you decided to use the accusation of Dithering Dad at Harry to deflect his very valid point

they call this the Chewbacca tecnique right?

The Chewbacca Defense is a term for a strategy that seeks to overwhelm its audience with nonsensical arguments, as a way of confusing the audience and drowning out legitimate opposing arguments

Graham is the master thread disrupter, and once you see through what he does you feel quite foolish to have fallen for it. I know I do. :o

He uses a combination of the following:

    1. Make statements that can be shot down by an opponent who expends a maximum of two minutes worth of research effort. Continue to refute the clear evidence presented in order to frustrate and enrage an opponent who has you "bang to right's". This is a great tactic because your opponent gets frustrated that despite having supplied clear proof that you're wrong, you pretend otherwise and make your opponent go purple in the face.

    2. Make a statement such as "Ha! next news you'll be saying that aliens are going to land from mars and demand housing, thus increasing house prices", then wait a couple of pages and make the statement "Well, how can we believe you, you once stated that Martians will demand housing!!". This is a brilliant tactic because it puts a suggestion in the casual reader's mind and then a bit later takes that suggestion and assigns it to your opponent, making him look foolish at having 'made' such a ridiculous statement.

    3. Introduce random arguments into a thread, so that there are so many new ideas, tangeants and dead end debates that no one remembers what the original debate was all about. You could be debating about house prices and Devon will introduce 'corporal punishment', 'supply & demand', 'Mongolian oil finds' or other semi/totally irrelevent subjects to confuse everything.

    4. Make up complete lies. If you throw enough poo around, some of it will stick. If your opponent provides proof that he is wrong, then see step #1 or leave your opponent hanging and vanish from the thread.

    5. Pretend to be stupid and have your opponent explain and explain the simplest concepts again and again so that he gets annoyed or exhausted and gives up the debate. An extension of this tactic is to pretend to misinterpret what your opponent says and go off on a tangeant or introduce new issues (see step #3).

    6. Announce to the forum that you're sick of all the arguments (that you caused by using the above tactics) and so you're leaving forever. You then come back not 12 hours later and look a complete fool. This works really well with step #5 because your opponent underestimates you, taking you for a idiot when you're actually making a fool of yourself deliberately to lull them into a false sense of superiority.

I could go on, but you get the idea. Devon pretends to be stupid but he's anything but. He is the most talented thread wrecker that I have ever come across. He is simply a genius! :)

Devon's only real flaw is that no one could be as stupid, naive and idiotic as he portrays himself to be (they would be a slug or other lower form of life). Once you realise this fact, you see through his game.

Well i remember the period where this sub-forum was 'hidden' ... house prices were falling at the point and discussions were quite heated lol.

Then again i hibernated throughout this period.. only so much you can discuss about house prices and economy without getting bitter or crazy lol.

What did the "bulls:rolleyes:" do to wind up the bears, put links to improving economic conditions and house price indexes.

Locally we had an annoucement of a total factory closure yesterday with the loss of 275 jobs.

Today Honda announced that they are looking for 500 voluntary redundancies due to the expectation of lower sales. This will have a knock effect on the supplier base also.

I'm struggling at a ground level to find "improving economic conditions.

Poor old Mewbie is badly misunderstood character (even by 6 or 7 of his own aliases )
