Take for example UK Pounds versus US Dollars, you might see a sign like this UK/USD = 1.67 This means for 1 pound you get 1.67 dollars. Or, if you have dollars, it costs you 1.67 dollars to buy 1 pound.
If you are overseas, (in this case the USA) and want to do a quick calculation, simply divide the price by the current rate. For example, you buy something for 58 dollars. Simply divide 58 by 1.67 = 34.73 pounds.
Does that make sense?Marching On Together
I've upped my standards...so up yours!0 -
Britrael has it covered but there are a couple of little gotchas:
buying and selling rates are rarely the same so for accuracy use the right one
allow for sales tax in the US - it won't be in the quoted price0 -
worth remembering of course that many states don't charge sales taxLegal team on standby0

Well if you consider 5 as many out of 50,
Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire & Oregon
don't charge sales tax, the usual destinations do, CA 7.25%, FL 6%0
