i know that next do them (not sure if they're in each one they sell), they're also great for newborns so they don't scratch themselves.

sleeping bags aren't designed to be used with blankets. you use them with a thermometer and adjust the baby's clothing accordingly. my room is always quite warm so i usually just put my baby in a sleepsuit and a 2.5 tog grobag, if i had a 1 tog i would add a vest underneath

this website tells you what to put the baby in, it's for grobags but should work with other sleeping bags. hope it helps.

I bought some sleepsuits from sainsburys and they have the fold over mitts on the end.

My boys were both winter babies, and rather than layer up their clothing, I had one of those free standing electric radiators. I used to run it on a low setting, just enough to keep the chill off their room. I had a timer switch so it clicked on when our heating went off and went off in the morning when the heating came on. The running costs were minimal and it was enough to help them keep warm.
Here I go again on my own....
  • Fold up sleepsuits from next and mothercare. Whats baby wearing under the grobag? mine has a vest and sleepsuit under unless its really cold and then she might have something longsleeved under the sleepsuit too.

  • I wouldnt use a blanket as well as a sleeping bag, Becles idea above is a really good one abour a small radiator ( wish id thought of that when mine were babies). My youngest girs hands were absolutely freezing when she was a baby up to when she was about 9 months then they seemed to thaw out but it never bothered her. Have you tried scratch mitts? They might warm them up a little.

  • I asked this the other day on the pregnancy thread...responses were that Mothercare, Sainsburys and Next all had the foldover scratch mitts. Someone also said M&S do, but I checked last week and they don't seem to anymore.

How warm is your grobag? They come in 1 tog and 2.5 tog, and I guess you'd want the warmer one at this time of year.

these are wonderful, my children have used them all the time. i'm selling out grown ones on ebay, but i found them invaluable. because my little ones never kept a blanket on.It only now that my middle son snuggles. my daughter (6) still kicks it off. my youngest had a fleecey one which i used to put over his clothes for early morning school run's as it kept him alot warmer.
  • Matalan also do the fold over hand sleepsuits. Although we used to put socks on my baby's hands, Works a treat ;)

I was going to say Matalan for the sleepsuits but as others have said scratch mitts or sock work well too as I found that sometimes as my LO was growing they got too short in the arm so used to put socks on as the sleepsuit would last a bit longer.

Also if you have a TKmaxx near by you can get growbags a lot cheaper especially if you buy them out of season. I used to buy my winter ones in summer and vice versa.
  • Hi when DS was younger I used scratchmits and socks and they worked a treat, problem is now hes teething everything goes into his mouth but hes still too young to always take it out (6 months) so I dont wanna use anything that could possibly lie over his face whilst we are all asleep. I think its just our room is cold and very small, we are very cramped in with our bed and the cot/drawers/units theres no where to put a free standing heater without it burning (seriously theres no floor space) our other kids share the other room. Anyway thanks for the replies, Ill check out your suggestions and check the tog rating of the sleepsuit. The temp has really dropped here in last cpl days, white frosty mornings etc. Mainly its his arms and legs, I might put a long sleeved vest on to bed. My other kids only ever had blankets as sleepsuits are a relatively new thing x
