Hi guys,
I am going to Kenya with my better half at the end of June and have never been to Africa before. I have heard that when you enter Kenya you have to pay a charge (like in Turkey) does anyone know if this is true and how much it is ?
Also what is the best currency to take with us ?
Many thanks
Paul

if you are travelling with a tour operator it will probably be included in your ticket price ,
best currency , would be Kenyan shillings
I've been told that it is quicker and easier to arrange your visa in the uk , rather than wait in the queue at nairobi/mombassa airports"The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page."
happy travels !!

In the United Kingdom 200,000 people are bitten by dogs every year and some people will die as a result. Of those bitten, 70% are children... So the question has to be asked....... Has the time come to ban children?0

Jambo !
You will have to pay 35 pound each in sterling or the equiv'. in US $. I would suggest downloading the visa form from the Kenyan High Com'. website, and filling it in before going, otherwise you can do it there, in the scrum ! Go to the desk on the LH side if possible and SMILE. You will also need to fill in an entry form, which the airlines don't always give out, so make sure that you have a pen.
You then, go down stairs to the luggage retrieval, usually lots of trolleys, don't be pressurised into a 'helper', unless you need help ! Smile at the customs guys and then out to the taxi and hotel touts ! If you are on a package, you will already have been approached by the rep'.0 -
Hi all
Kenya is proving to be a VERY expensive holiday, apart from holiday cost we have paid £42.50 x 3 for Yellow fever jabs, we have got to pay in excess of £120 for Malarone anti-malaria tablets(this is from Stratford Pharmacy which seems to be the cheapest) now we have to pay £30 x 3 for visas which have to be sent separately so £8 x 3 for each way special delivery post(you are not going to send your passport by normal post are you) so far this is over £360 extra & we havent even booked a Safari yet.
so much for booking a year in advance & getting a cheap break
BTW we are landing at 09.45am in Mombassa is it worth getting visas in airport or should we get them from Embassy(yes i know its a high commission) before we go, when we went to Egypt at xmas(courtesy of Tesco's) we were told 2 different things(ie get the visas here/get them at the airport) in the end we got them at the airport & we got visas & through checkout FASTER than people who got theirs before they went.
any advice will be gratefully received thanx in advance

ooops sorry didnt read post above i think i'll take my chance at the airport, as my niece works in a bank & i get currency at preferential rates from her(last xmas got $2 to the £ from her) paying in dollars will be about £25 x 3 better than approx £43 x 3
any further advice will be gratefully accepted
all the best

I know the feeling....
£80 for both yellow fever jabs
£110 Malarone tablets from Tesco
£36 allocated seats (bit expensive but thought it wos worth it for 9hr flight)
£68 aiport parking (paid 4 via tesco points)
£300 for 2 day safari with DM tours, heard very good reviews for them
Still its all inclusive for £650 4* hotel so lets hope it dosent cost too much when we get there......
av a good 1 spursman0
