Internet on my mobile phone...

Would like abit of info if possible as l dont know much about best deals/phones and mobile internet.
Right at the moment l have a L.G shine l bought and have a monthly sim deal with virgin where l pay £10 a month for 300/300 minutes and texts, if l want the internet which l do it's 30p a day so in a month it's about £19.
Is there anywhere out there where l can get a better deal for less maybe on contract with or without a new phone.
Or l keep my phone with the bundle l'm paying and buy a phone that has internet wi/fi installed where l dont pay for internet(is this right), does a Apple iPhone have internet that you can get free and if so is there anymore that do this that l could lokk at, whats the cheapest phone that will give me free internet.

One more question on my L.G Shine l cannot get onto facebook and it's very slow to browse the internet, is it slow to browse on all mobile phones....

Comments

    what browser are you using?
If your not already using it go to mobile.opera.com from your phones browser and download opera mini, it compresses the web pages so they should load faster.
have you always had problems with accessing facebook on your phone?
If youve never used it it might be getting blocked by the network if you havent verified your over 18 (even if you have a contract its not automatically removed), if you use opera mini it bypasses content filters that the networks have.

About the speed, your phone supports 3g and HSDPA so it should be fairly quick, check to see if youve got a 3g or H symbol next to the signal bars, if you havent it could mean virgin hasnt supplied you with the correct sim card. sometimes they send 2g instead of 3g sims, or that you dont live in a 3g/HSDPA area, check the neworks signal checker on their website.

In response to your original question, most networks have roughly the same deals on their sim only contracts and most networks allow you to add unlimited (usually limited to around 1gb) internet for £5 to £7.50 a month.

If your happy to stay with a sim only one of the best deals around at the moment is with O2 which gives you 800 minutes, 1600 texts and a bolt on like unlimited internet for £19.58 a month if you sign up for 12 months, plus if you go via quidco you can get £100 cashback making the cost £11.25 a month when you take the cashback in to account

  • Plus 1 for opera mini. I'm writing this on my phone just now. If your phone is unlocked and you like your current deal then 3 are doing 5 pound internet addons which give you unlimited access for a month. Thats what i'm on. Can be a bit sluggish at peak times though.
  • 1. what browser are you using?

Not sure ..... is it Virgin ?

How do l do this, can you explain what l need to do l'm not very good doing this kind of stuff.. Also do you get charged to download it...

    3. Have you always had problems with accessing facebook on your phone?

l,ve only just started using the internet on my mobile in the last few days and never been able to get on facebook. How do l unblock it if l dont use opera mini, and surely the virgi network know l'm over 18 as l have took out a monthly sim card deal ....

l can see a 3g symbol next to the signal.
  • Can someone help me out here if possible as l still cannot get on facebook...
  • It seems more and more that people are getting iPhones. I feel so out of the loop, but I like that my phone makes phone calls. If I could do everything on my phone (Facebook, surfing, etc), what am I going to do at work? :p
Seems really expensive for older phones to have a benefit with using the internet.

Never fear snakeeyes is here :D:rotfl::D

To remove the content filters you will need to put a credit card on file with virgin or send them some documentatio, they should be able to do it via phone or email.

Even if you dont want to use opera mini to bypass virgins content filters i wouls use it anyway, its faster, its easier to use and it uses alot less data than normal phone browsers so your 25mb cap will go alot further.

To download opera mini, just open up your browser like you normally would, go to the enter address bit and type mini.opera.com, a list of options will come up, choose opera mini 5 beta (its the latest one which is a huge improvement on the previous one) if you click on it it will download automatically, it doesnt cost anything to buy or download but the data used will come out of your daily data allowance, its only a small app, less than 1mb i think.

once its downloaded it will be saved in the games or application folder, close your normal browser and go to the folder where opera has been saved and open it and wait for it to load and set up, then your good to go.

Alot of the normal phone browsers are very slow so this will speed it up your browsing, whenever you want to go online open the app and do your browsing through it.

using it should sort your facebook access problems because all the data is routed through the opera servers instead of virgins
  • Does anyone know why l cannot login on this site from my mobile phone it does not even give me the option of putting my username or password down as every time l click on login it just goes back to login again. This is not just on this site but most forums l have registered with but cannot get onto with my mobile phone....
Also does anyone know why l cannot get onto youtube on my mobile phone. BangHead.gifBangHead.gifBangHead.gif
