Argos delivered wrong item yet refuse to accept a return!!!!

I ordered this item from Argos online:
http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?storeId=10001&catalogId=1500001801&langId=-1&searchTerms=2607360&Submit=GO+%3E
When the item arrived it was completely different to the picture on the site in every way imaginable. It was not a case but a cheap zip-up bag with a few tacky palettes.
I instantly contacted customer services. Usually Argos offer a 'free collection' service for returns but I was told that as this item is cosmetic it is 'not part of the 30 day money back guarantee.' After contacting Customer Services for the third time, they told me to just return it in-store.
So I carried the box all the way to the store and queued up for about 20 minutes only for the woman behind the till to open the catalogue and point out that I did in fact receive the item in the catalogue. Yes, you see the image on the website is completely different to the catalogue. So she flat-out refused to give me a refund too because I 'received the correct item' and 'it's excluded from the money-back guarantee.' I tried explaining that the website had a completely different photograph, but she wasn't having any of it, and told me to contact online support if that's the case.
I have no idea what to do. What are my rights as a consumer?

If the item is not as advertised and you did not accept an alternative then demand your money back ,dont take no for an answer and threaten with trading standards0

make sure you take a screenprint of the webpage, & save a copy of the picture
then print out the webpage, & go into the store.
if they still try & say you got what you ordered, ask to see the store manager. show them your screen print, & ask them to look it up on their website.
does the delivery note have the item number & name on it?0
