My mum has got some egg rings i think, I will have a go while I'm at her house.

    Thanks for the recipe!

Don't have a recipe, but remember reading on one of those frugal websites that you could make your own moulds by taking the top and bottom off small cans (eg tuna or baked beans) and obviously washing well. Hope this helps, particularly if Seakay's recipe is good and you want to make them in bulk!

I tried that but the tins were shaped in such a way on the bottom that I couldn't get the tinopener on.... bang went my frugal idea  If you have success please let me know!

As we speak I have a can full of water in the freezer to make rings for the crumpets. I will saw the can into rings and smooth the edges with sandpaper.

I have recipes in old 'Good Housekeeping' books with recipes.

    Hello,

I was wondering if it could be done? As with me being ill, the only thing I fancy at the moment is crumpets.

We have a breadmaker, is there any chance they could be made in there or does anyone have a recipe for crumpets?

If anyone has attempted it before, any tips?

    Thanks
    xx

Thanks to all who post the comps & please let the comping fairy sprinkle dust on my entries!
  • There's a recipe here; I'll add this thread to that one later ;)

You could make the batter in the BM, but it's not as much work as making bread dough, so not much point, really :D

I love these hot & buttered but over here in N.I,they're hard to get apart from the 'mass produced' supermarket ones.My mom used to make her own wayyy back in the 70's so I was wondering if anyone knew of a good recipy that I can try.
    Thanks in advance,

P.S. Delia has a good looking crumpets recipe http://www.deliaonline.com/recipes/cuisine/european/english/home-made-crumpets.html (although I haven't tried it). Instead of crumpet rings or egg rings you can use tin cans with the top and bottom taken off with a tin opener (I find the sainsburys basics pineapple tins a very good size).
  • Please help, every time that I try to make crumpets the outside is cooked but the inside is still like sloppy in texture and tastes vile :(
I cook them really slowly in egg rings, I've tried this now 4 times and can never seem to perfect my crumpet. The recipe I follow down to the t is Delias.
Could someone please post a complete fool proof way of making them please, even down to how many tablespoons of mixture to put in the egg rings.
    Thanks very much :D
