Morning all.
I have found a recipe for crumpets and would love to give them a go, however I cant find any of the stainless steel tins
I've looked on ebay, but found nothing.
Has anyone ever made crumpets and if so, what did you use to cook them in..... and are they delish!?!

Yes they are lovely. You could use the mini flan rings or ss cutters. They are cooked on a griddle. You can also do them without the rings0

Yes they are the ones on US ebay.
I couldnt do it without a ring as i'd want them as thick as the bought ones are, or is there a secret? The ones in my cook book are identical to shop bought ones but I bet they taste much nicer!0 -
You can buy crumpet rings from cook'n'kitchen or lakeland. I'm sure I've read somewhere that you can use small tins (eg tuna) with both ends taken off.

Pink-Winged, what a good idea about the tuna tins!
Right off to the fridge to look for tuna............. :j0 -
Haven't made any for ages but when I did I used those rings for frying eggs. Not as thick as shop bought crumpets admittedly.
I might try making them again and use tuna tins (I eat tons of tuna!)The world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -
I really like crumpets and fancy trying to make some. Does anyone have a fool-proof recipe???
Many Thanks

Has anyone made their own crumpets?
I've googled for some recipes, but would like a tried and tested one along with any advice?
Do you have to buy special crumpet rings?0 -
I used to use a Good Housekeeping recipe, but now use this Delia one

except that I use aprox 30g fresh yeast (free from Mr T) instead of dried. I have not got crumpet rings, but I inherited a couple of egg rings so I use those- I think that you would definitely need to use something or else the batter would run all over the place.
If you want to try the method without buying any extra equipment, then how about pikelets?

They are very similar but thinner, so don't need a mould.0
