Also mentioned in this thread: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1405717

Read the T&C very carefully EG:

    10. CANCELLING OR ENDING THIS CONTRACT
10.1 The Customer may cancel this Contract with no penalty any time within the cooling off period; this request can be made either in writing or by phone by contacting our customer service number: 0844 372 3410. If a customer cancels outside the 7 day cooling off period, the Customer must pay Talk Plus Telecom for early termination (see 20.2).
10.2 The contract will continue for the minimum period and shall automatically renew for periods of sixty months on the expiry of the minimum period (each such period shall be a "Renewal Period") unless and until terminated under clause 20.1.
10.2a Optimum Calls reserves the right to charge termination fee in full for a cease line.
10.3 If the customer breaches the contract after the ten day cooling off period and during the minimum period or renewal period, the customer must pay Optimum Calls £395 + VAT (per line) for each case of breach.
10.31 If the customer cancelled this contract with BT, and no contact is made within the cooling off period Optimum Calls will apply a breach of contract fee (see 10.3).
10.32 A welcome pack is sent to all customers; however we can not be held responsible for loss of post. Our full Terms of conditions are available on the website. If a customer does not receive the welcome letter they are still bound by the terms and conditions.

After I cancelled the agreement they have phoned me twice asking why.
When I pointed out their written t+c didn't correspond with what I was told verbally they said oh don't worry that overrides the written t+c.
Of course it does ! lol
I should have received a seperate letter with my personal t+c they said.
I bet they say that to everyone
  • They get another recent sparkling review here:D http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews244523.html

Obviously, if your communications are important people need to read ALL the T&Cs very very carefully from these here today and gone tomorrow setups.

I'd trust none of them myself unless it's a personal recommendation.
  • Got phone call this morning and thought it sounded a good idea, so said yes. Then thought I better just check it on my mates Martins site and glad I did. Rung them back and said I had changed my mind. This afternoon I got a phone call asking why I had changed my mind for 'training purposes' and I said to be honest I looked you up on the internet. He just said um (which sounded like he had a big grin on his face) and said fair enough and that was it. No denying or anything! As if he knew it was true! That was a close one, if it sounds to good to be true it usually is............

I had a cold call yesterday at work from a rep from XLN telecom.Similar scenario, cheaper than BT etc.Read the small sprint, rolling contract, termination fees and the like. For the relatively small potential savings I don't think any of these companies are worth taking the risk quite frankly
  • having been caught out by Unicom and their rolling (3-year!!) contract and steep termination fees - I'm a bit reluctant to go to another non-BT provider.

    Hello All

Ok my parents have been caught out by Optimum calls, they never agreed to change from BT and we went on holiday, well we were on are second week,my Mother phoned us up on her mobile saying we had a later from BT saying sorry we are moving from them to optimum calls and ending are phone service agreement with BT:mad:

as soon as we advised BT we are not ending are service agreement with them whats so ever, they said ok but there's nothing they could do until 14 days!! as that's law

So when we returned home we received a later from Optimum calls saying they had received an order to transfer your not (you're) telephone services to another telephone provider, this transfer will take place on 19.02.10 and will effect the following numbers 01367241*** and we didn't receive a welcome pack if we did we would of found out early and told them were to go and to inform BT

And they say they are not responsible for lost post (NOT LIKE THEY SENT IT OUT IN THE FIRST PLACE)

    And stating

Please Not that your decision to transfer your services to another provider means that,in accordance with our terms and conditions,a cancellation fee of £395 + Vat per line will be payable

20.2 If the customer wishes to completely terminate their contract with Optimum Calls they must pay the early termination fee of £395 + VAT per line, the customer will also forfeit any service charges and line rentals paid in advance.

So we have written to are ofcom and local MP to see why on earth should we have to pay them for a service we didn't not want in the first place ,and they are still fighting for there money

ABSOLUTE SCAM and what ever happened to working for you're money!!

If they want there money they will have to take us to court!!

    Sorry about the long winge

    Regards

    Andy
