Hi all,
Thought I would start this thread today, apologies if it has already been done.
Today I have a lunch with the girls from work, we have chosen a cheap and healthy place, salad and smoothie £5, which is good for DFW and FFW!
However, tonight the OH and his friends are going to a bar near my office for a few drinks and has invited me. The trouble is it is v v expensive (£12 per drink- ridiculous I know). I had planned to stay in tonight to save money. Do I go and have one drink bought by OH and run the risk of staying for another? Or do I just go straight home to the safety of my own flat?

Imelda, if you go, you have to be very strong willed!! say it with me 'I WILL ONLY HAVE ONE DRINK, I WILL ONLY HAVE ONE DRINK'. does OH know that you're trying to become debt-free? since telling my husband, i find that he offers to pay for everything when we go out, knowing that i would just stay home because i didn't want to spend the money (at this rate we'll be sorting out his debts when i become debt free
)
as for me, i'll be having a no spend day today. i missed the free gallery and subtitles day yesterday, but waiting until sunday to put my ebay listings up. not much to do today, hoping to get news from a&l that my account is open, so i sort out my ddebits and whatnot.
hope everybody has a good no spend day todayMFW Newbie - #17. (#116 in 2019)

Just spent £1.35 on a diet coke & flapjack (always a good combination!!).
Bought my sleeping bag, travel towel (in giant!!), hiking boots & socks last night - spent about £150!! Btw - does anyone know which season sleeping bag I'll need for Oz? I'm camping for about 10 days, but the rest of the time will be in a hostel - I got a 2 Season...?
Meeting a friend for a quick catch up tonight, so perhaps £10 there...
I must try and have a few no spend days, spending too much at the moment!! (obviously travel stuff has come out of budget, but wasting too much on food & bits and pieces!!).
Have a good day everyone. xx0 -

It depends on what you want to do, if you fancy going out & can stick to having one drink, then go, but otherwise just go straight home to resist the temptation!! That is a very expensive drink, sounds like somewhere in Central London to me!! Have fun whatever you decide xx0 -
It's in the city, so yes highly inflated prices to massage the highly inflated egos around here....
The OH does know about my debt and pays for me quite a lot of the time, I'm just not comfortable with it (way too pig minded for my own good sometimes). Anyway i'm sure his mates won't want me there for too long cramping their style (and my train home is at 7pm so I will definitely be getting that).
At least I am actually thinking about it, I have spent over £100 in the same bar before the LBM!!Saving for an early retirement!0 -

I'll be spending didly squat today, if i can help it... Packed lunch, and going to visit the parents for the weekend, so free meals too.Bought my sleeping bag, travel towel (in giant!!), hiking boots & socks last night - spent about £150!! Btw - does anyone know which season sleeping bag I'll need for Oz? I'm camping for about 10 days, but the rest of the time will be in a hostel - I got a 2 Season...?
ms_london - when, and where abouts are you planning on camping? If its somewhere further north than Perth / sydney, my guess is you wont need anything too warm. Also depends when though.
Bear in mind, that all hostels, (well - everyone i used) will provide sheets, blankets, and pillows free of charge. Many will even ban you from bringing your own sleeping bag. You may have to leave it in reception. They do this to try to cut the risk of spreading bedbugs.... (backpacking myth, your just as likely to find them in the Savoy. I never had probs with them).
My point is: Make it small and cheap, 'cos i think you might get fed up lugging it around if you dont need to. Dont forget, pack light - Last thing you want is to have to pay for 2 bus tickets cos your luggage takes up an extra seat!
PS - Is that you in your avatar?

mmmm flapjack, I may have to make some tonight...
Sleeping bag- do you really need one? I found it cumbersome to carry around, instead I bought a sleeping bag liner and hired a sleeping bag/ bed linen from the hostels I stayed in (the liner on it's own was perfect for when it's hot) for not very much (and I'm sure some wouldnt let you use your own anyway- bed bugs). Is the camping part of an organised trip? they might be able to hire you a sleeping bag. Up to you though as some of the sleeping bags were manky (and when you see some of the swampy travelling types that may have slept in them previously.....). It depends when you'll be camping, I did all mine in December/ January and it was nice and warm (wore long sleeves to bed anyway to stop the mozzies biting).Saving for an early retirement!0 -
sorry craigo, cross posted
I never had bed bug problems either...Saving for an early retirement!0
