Sony Ericsson Warranty - Beyond Economical Repair

Hi All,
I had a mobile phone from BuyMobilePhones.net (who were great) in April of this year. Last month it started to turn itself off especially if i placed it down on a table with anything other than a featherlike touch to the surface. I contacted BuyMobilePhones and they said they only provided insurance for the first 28 days and that I was to send it to Sony Ericsson under the warranty. I had a letter stating that during the inspection it has been diagnosed as Beyond Economical Repair. It apparently has a bent mainboard (whatever that is) and they will happily dispose of it for me for free - but not replacing it with a new one. Anyone else think this seems wrong???
