Easyjet pulling out of East Midlands airport

As I understand it from their website, EasyJet are currently in consultation as to whether or not they pull out of flying from the East Midlands airport in 2010.
Currently I'm looking at booking flights for a group to Malaga, and when searching it comes up with a warning saying that if they do pull out money will be refunded or they'll move us to another EasyJet location.

As you will appreciate there is concern that booking with them (and then having the rest of the holiday booked up e.g. specific golf tee times) will basically be setting us up for a fall.

Does anyone have a clue as to how likely it is that EasyJet will pull out, or when they will make a decision etc? Also personal opinions, would you book or go with a more expensive flight that's guaranteed?

Thanks for any help you can offer

Easyjet have essentially already made the decision to withdraw, but have to go through a 90 day consultation exercise. If you want to fly from East Midlands book with someone else. If you are willing to fly from Manchester, Liverpool or Bristol instead compare the prices on Easyjet's website. If it's cheaper to book from East Midlands and one of the Easyjet flights from another airport is suitable you could book the EMA route and get put onto to the alternative route.

As I understand from Nottingham Evening Post, Easyjet have already decided to start refunding people who have booked for the summer.
It is such a shame, but that is the way it is with so called low cost carriers (the only low cost being the wages they pay) they don't give a fig if you have a holiday booked, if their shareholder profits are at risk, you can take a flying leap. Bloody scandel.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.
  • Do you know jet2 have taken up a lot of the routes from Easyjet from East mids? I dont think its been that well advertised and most people in the industry seem to think that these will be just the start.
  • I've got a flight booked with Easyjet from EMA to Venice at the end of January for my wife's 40th birthday, and i'm really worried that they will stop flying before then. They won't say until December exactly when they will stop, anyone have any insider knowledge?

  • We've had confirmation today that Easyjet are closing their base at East Midlands as of 6th Jan 2010

Customers with bookings for the period 6 January 2010 onwards will be contacted in the next few days with three options:

    1. A full refund.
    2. A transfer at no additional cost to an alternative easyJet flight from another airport.
    3. A transfer at no additional cost to an alternative flight with bmibaby from East Midlands Airport.
  • I have an EJ flight booked out of ema in April. I saw this thread but haven''t received an email from them. I logged on to my booking today and it tells my flight has been cancelled. You can rebook another EJ flight on line but if you want a refund or a BMI baby flight you have to call. I've rebooked from Newcastle but it's a bit rubbish you have to find out yourself. So if like me you want to rebook with them go online and do it whilst there is still availability for what you want.

BMI Baby have also launched some new routes from EMA, including Venice, previously an Easyjet destination.
