Royal Mail redirection - home moving.

More mail arrived today that had been redirected to the old owner - who has kindly redirected it back to me - another call to Royal Mail begging them to stop redirecting my mail :mad:0

My sister's paranoid ex once managed to set up mail forwarding at my parents house in order to try and find out her new address.
At my present address, the flat owner and myself had the same surname and he we both had mail direction set up. There were one or two items that we had to swap back through the postie muddling it because of our shared surname.0 -
My redirection simply isn't working. They seem to forward about 1 letter in 5, and take a long time doing it. Although the time could be a result of the stike.
And I sometimes get redirected mail addressed to other people at the block of flats. Not even in my flat or in my name!

Just completed (and allowed to lapse) a year's redirection on behalf of an elderly relative in care. I think there were a couple of lapses in that time - redirected by a neighbour who had a key to the (empty) house - but nearly everything was promptly redirected by the Royal Mail. (In fact trying to return junk mail to sender was unsuccessful - redirected back again!)
All known organisations were advised of the forwarding address promptly - the main point of redirection was to catch any bank accounts, etc, that we didn't know about. It turned out there were none - after the first week or so everything forwarded was junk mail. Getting off those mailing lists has been a major (I exaggerate - minor really) operation.
But in general a satisfactory service.0 -
After setting up redirection it is worth going to the local sorting office and having a word, then get their phone number so you can ring them directly in case of problems. We are in France every year for several months and set up redirection each time. If it is the regular Post lady on duty all is fine but if she is off it goes to pot.0

It is good to hear the other side of the story from those who wanted the service, paid for the service and either did or didnt get a good service, I think it must depend alot on the quality of staff as already mentioned......
Alas I didnt want the service, didnt pay for the service and for the third time (to my knowledge) they have redirected my mail to the previous owner of this property.
I think the service is working perfectly for him - I dont get any of his mail :T he gets exactly what he paid for and more - my bl$$dy bank statements:mad:
Third phone call to Royal Mail, who remain very sorry and remain confident that it simply wont happen again - humph, we will see.0 -
Sounds like they've got someone lazy or untrained in your local delivery office. The redirection is done by name, not on the whole address. Whoever's sorting your street's mail doesn't appear to know that, or can't be bothered reading the addressee.0

Quoted for truth!0 -
redirections and keepsafe's are done manually by the postperson in the delivery office each day.
When it is a regular postperson it is likely they will be done correctly. If it's a relief posty and he is doing his job properly all will be well. However a lot of relief's are drafted in to cover sickness at the last minute and it's common for redirections to be 'forgotten'.
Also some delivery rounds have a lot of redirections - they take a while to do and the posty may be anxious to get out on delivery and 'miss' a few.
In general it's an ok service.0
