What the hell, buy it & bung £219 on the credit card!

Let's assume 16.9% interest, seems pretty typical. And as you're already paying off debt lets assume you make minimum of 5% payment a month, then when minimum falls below £5 you pay that instead......

It will only take you till Feb 2010 to pay it off, with £63 interest.

Such a bargain, think I'll get one myself!!!

    DON'T BE SUCH A MUPPET:money: :money: :money:

I must be one of the last few people not to have one of these. So far I have no wish to own or need an ipod. Probably not very helpful. If you've already got one and it still works, why get another one?

Don't get it.. you will probably not use it after a week or so...as for you extra Hard Drive for the Lap-Top,,, try deleting all the old files that are on your Lap-Top that you have not even looked at for months, you can always "save" them to CD or Disk....
 Keep your Chin up.. it can only get better

Have you looked in the refurb bit of the apple store online? You might be able to save yourself some money buying the hard drive and/or the ipod. I have a shuffle (bought from tesco when they had their 1000 point offer on) which also works as a data storage device, should I ever need to transport a bundle of data. Does the Ipod work the same way?

That said, we are finally debt free, so I can cope with a teeny spend (but then it was teeny, not £200+, which you're talking about).

If you REALLY have to have one, can't you make it your debt free carrot? Print out and stick up a picture of one where you can always see it, and once you're £200 in credit after your debts are clear, get one then. You've paid off almost half your debts in the last six months, so if you crack on you could get one at Christmas!

Stop it! Stop it! Stop it!

You dont NEED this at all. you have convinced yourself that you do when you dont really.

That is alot of money and to be honest if you are desperate for one, surely they will be cheaper in Japan anyway?

And if you are going Japan, (land of gadgets) if you can t control your gadget urges here, how are you going to there?

Think of all the poor people out there who live with far less happily.

    don't buy it.

i know it's shiny but don't buy it. get an external harddrive instead, use that for backing up - it will be more useful in the end and it won't go out of fashion (i've had my lacie for 5 years now, still going strong)

come on now, you know you don't need it.

If you want to listen to music on the go and you want to back up files then ipod isn't even the best to go for to be honest as it'll just hold your music. Buy another MP3 player from a different brand which will also hold files. You'll then have exactly what you need but for probably half the price. Then the money you would have spent can go on one of your cards so you feel you have done well on both fronts. Theres plenty out there now all very good quality. The sony walkman MP3 players are probably better than the ipods anyway and they are cheaper.

I need an external hard drive for my laptop

I am going to be Mrs very very Mean and Mrs very very Blunt. And hope and pray it does not come across as being too rude.

Need. Do you know what a need is. In it's most basic form a need is roof over your head, food in your belly, clean water to drink and clothes on your back.

By the fact that you have a laptop you own more than at least 95% of the population of the world does. You have all of the above.

Stop and think about it. Do you have a stereo at home? You have an internet connection and a laptop at home? Do you run a car and does it have a stereo in it? If you can answer yes to all of the above then do you have any need for an Ipod. You already have many ways in which to listen to cds/radio.

Personally to me there are few people who can claim the want of a Ipod and to me these are the type of person who have very few belongings and don't have stereos at home and use public transport to get out and about. As it is boring as hell as I use to to travel every morning to work by bus. Use to take an hour twice a day. And a personal stereo (can you tell how long ago it was)was a my release. Also meant I did not have to talk to any one. Being the anti Social person that I was.

Unless you have an ancient (about 5 years old like mine) laptop does it not have a cd burner in it. So you can do all your backups that way. Bulk bought cd's cost pennies.

Right I will stop being mean now. We all love shiny gadgets and love the thrill of buying in a shop or getting a parcel through the post. It is not easy when your heart says yes but your head and wallet it say no.

I think you will be glad when you see that just say no is the best policy. Look at the Ipod in terms of how it will extend you being in debt. Once you have opened the box it will have lost a lot of it is value.

I wish you all the best with the fight with the consumer demon we all get bitten by it sometimes.

And we are being a bit mean but tough love never hurt anyone.

Not sure what to say about the trip aboard. Apart from if you have to put it on your credit cards and can't pay if off straight away. Then you can't afford it.

I do hope that the sun is shinning where you are. And if you can walk in the sun shine and some fresh air may help to clear your mind.

Again I wish you all the best. Take care.

    Yours

    Calley
