The company have said they'll come over tomorrow. They are a reputable firm with a good repution and alot of repeat customers so I have my fingers crossed...

If they were a " reputable " firm, they would have fitted them properly in the first place.

A couple of years ago we had a new patio door put in and find when we sit at that end of the room it is really cold!

Does anyone else have this problem, and is there anything I can do to stop this? Not sure whether it's asking the door/window company that put it in for tips or suggestions

Any ideas would be very appreciated...

    Hi,
We had some French doors installed last week. We immediately noticed a slight draft coming from the bottom where the pair of doors meet, the fitter said this is a design fault - not good enough!! The company came back today to replace the brushes on the underside of each door. Let us know how you get on Summer01.

Hi - The guy has just been round first thing and said that his team that fitted the windows did not screw bolts in through the lintel and that's why the doors are loose at the top. He has offered to come and sort this out and seal all the way around..

I'm so glad I called them to check this, it took ages for me to convince my other half there was a draft - he thought it was me being picky or something

Quite often UPVC doors settle after they've been fitted as gravity pulls down on them. Check that the doors are closing square to the frame and each other - if not you should be able to adjust the door at the hinges using a hex key. If the door is simply not pulling shut fully when the handle is twisted to engage the multipoint lock, take a look at where the bolts shoot out into within the frame and each other. These can also normally be adjusted with a hex key to pull the door tighter to the frame.

A friend's front door had settled so much the door was visibly leaning when shut, leaving a gap at the bottom that let light (and cold air) through! He made the problem worse by putting stick on draught excluder around the gap which actually made the door difficult to close. Ten minutes with hex keys and a few adjustments and the door was like new again!

I still feel a slight draft but the rest of family think its all in my mind! With the weather we're having I'm certainly glad we changed the french doors a couple of weeks ago.
