in Credit cards
hi, this year i have been a bit smarter, two years ago i went to florida and had to pay each time i used my credit card, cheeky beggars.
this year, i have applied for a Nationwide credit card, and they do not charge commission for use abroad.
just thought i'd let people know in case they weren't aware.
cheers

You will be charged if you withdraw cash on it, so you also need a NW debit or cash card for free cash withdrawals0

I have just applied online for the NW credit card, at the end of the application, I was told that I was accepted and I was given a crad number and credit limit. It also upgraded me to a Gold card, i assume that this is also 0% on purchases and 0% commission overseas??
However, when I hit the proceed button, it jumped back to the beginning, so I now appear to have two applications in progress, has anyone else experienced this??0 -

I did this aswell, because it was no charges and 0% on purchases for 9 months..............needless to say, I was somewhat miffed when on trying to pay for my hotel in Malta, it got cancelled(?) twice, and I ended up having to use my IF card (which was also declined twice (?).....I had used both cards prior to going on hols with no probs......
Hotel ended up having to phone IF to get it authorised.....when I phoned IF they just said 'we have to do this because of the amount'...when I pointed out to them that I have spent far more in one transaction in Britain than I was paying for the hotel (234.5 lira) I was told 'well, we don't know what your spending pattern is abroad'!!!!
Needless to say, I didn't use either card for the remainder of the hotel...too much hassle.....
Still got to find out why the Nationwide card didn't go through...0 -

It's always best to inform your card issuers when and where you are going so the anti-fraud programs don't reject your transactions.I have a cunning plan!
Proud to be dealing with my debts.0 -

I appreciate that now, but this was my first time abroad so that wasn't at the forefront of my mind!! Still I know for next time!0 -

Yes I learned the hard way too! Had to get retailer to phone the card company to clear a transaction. Now I always inform them first.
I also have cancellation numbers programmed into mobile phone and in a draft email as well with scans of passports etc. Just incase:jI have a cunning plan!

Andy,
Something similar happened when I signed up and they sent me 2 sets of the terms for me to sign, I just filled the one in and my card arrived no hassle...0 -
