Anyone else got a SE Satio?

My daughter has just got this phone and is having problems getting it to connect to her laptop.

She's installed the PC suite as per instructions, which installs all the drivers but windows (visa) keep coming up with an error message "usb device not recognised"

Has anyone else had this problem and if so how did you solve it, she's been trying to fix it all afternoon and it's driving her round the bend now.

you can't, not seperatly. The phone doesn't come with a drivers cd, you have to download the pc suite from the sony erricson website, which also installs the drivers. You then have to connect the phone to your computer via the USB cable to complete set up but that's when the error message comes up from windows saying it doesn't recognise the USB device, so set up is cancelled.

aww thanks for trying to help and thanks for the bump.

We've searched online and it seems like dd isn't the only person having the same problem. So far there have been no solution to it either :(

if your just after sticking things on the phone, do you have a card reader you could stick them mem card in?

then you can load apps and ringtones mp3s etc on to the memory card and install/organise things on the actual phone?

yep we do, thats a fab idea! I'll tell dd. I know she wants to get the phone to link up with her laptop for all the other stuff (one of the main reasons she wanted the phone was because of the camera) but in the mean time until we can work out why the rest won't work then thats a great way round it.

The PC Suite is nokia software as the SE Satio is heavily based on the symbian OD used on the Nokia 5800. I ahd similar issues with my N95 8GB, and i managed to resolve it by uninstalling the PC Suite. Rebooting, reinstalling the PC Suite then plugging in the phone.

If that fails, if you look under data connections in the phone settings you can set it to be in either Mass Storage, PC Suite or Media Player mode. You need Mass Storage if you want to access it like a USB drive, and PC Suite if you want the functionality like saving messages/calender etc.
Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies

I have not got the Satio but have experience of Sony PC suite etc.

Providing the PC suite is properly installed first, connect the phone to the PC as per normal (use different usb ports and/or try using differenct pc/laptop, it could be usb port).

When the usb is plugged in, the phone should come up with a message to choose "Data mode", "PC suite" and from my experience you do have to do that now with virtually all types of phones.
