Alternative to Sky

But you don't get all of the free to air channels with a freeview box, and a freeview box would be a similar cost

Your card wouldn't work in their box but their box and card would work in your house. Don't plug it into the phone line and they cant tell where it is. At Christmas we took our box to Mums house so that we could watch sports and movies during the break as she only has the basic package. Worked no problem:j

you cannot cable in your area and freeview maybe an option, when you cancell sky your card will become a free-to-view card, this is NOT FREEVIEW, you will get all the free-to-air channels and all the free-to-view channels listed on https://www.freesatfromsky.com there are alot more channels on freesat than freeview but there are a couple on freeview that you cannot get on freesat like E4 and ABC1.......

You can take your sky+ box to another house and try it make sure you put the dish cable in input1 at the back of your sky box. But what i am picturing from what you say your sky is saying 'no satellite signal is being received' am right?. this maybe down to your dish and that it has been moved(doesn't have to be alot!).

If You are wanting freesat you could go down to your local electrical shop and ask if they re-allign dishes they probably charge you though. Or you could buy a satellite alignment meter you can get these at maplins for around £20 or ebay £10 but it does require patients and focus. But the first thing i would try seen as it is knocked out anyway is(thats if you can reach your dish) move it each way a tiny little bit wait a second and watch the TV (there will be a pause between the dish and the signal)

If you go for freeview you can your box from Argos or currys...... for the aerial upgrade you could get someone to come out and do it for you or just get a good one from argos.. that is good for weak areas and put it up your self.

A Dreambox is a kind of satellite receiver

A H-H motor is a motor to attach to the dish, Horizontal-to-Horizontal so in theory if the dish can move from side to side, you can get signals from any satellite on the Clarke Belt with a beam focussed on Europe
