Invasion of sockpuppets.....

Options
Have we had that many members PPR'd lately? Or is it just Mewbie setting up all his alt accounts in advance?:D

In all seriousness, it's getting a little old.... Isn't there a way to block them or something?

  • Hello and welcome to the forum.

To answer your question about 'sockpuppets', a sock puppet is when a forum user sets up a new account and posts under a different name.

No one knows exactly why these sad individuals do it, perhaps they are mentally ill and/or lost all confidence and so insecure that they need to hide their identity.

I thought that was a troll?

What's a PPR? And what's the difference between a 'strawman' and a troll? Or is a strawman mainly an American thing? i only know that term from someone trolling a forum i used to go on...we found out about his bannings from American conspiracy sites, and they used it a lot in regards to him.

I'll get used to all this newfangled parlance one day! Bloody kids! :D

Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop
  • So a sockpuppet doesn't neccesarily have to have underhand intentions like a troll...it can simply be someone (a reg) not wanted to post their personal stuff under their usual username? I saw a few of those in the family section...can't say i blame 'em in those circumstances.

Still don't know what a PPR is tho! Google's rubbish with acronyms. I'll google strawman when i can be bothered :D

Yes, although on this particular board I can't think of any reason why they can't simply use their original id.

I don't know what PPR stands for (anyone?) but it's some sort of reprimand from the site for poor behaviour

PPR is Posting Privileges Removed. It means that someone has done something beyond the pale and, as a punishment, the mods have withdrawn their ability to post. It's the internet equivalent of being sent to Coventry. (Mind you, Martin once sent me to the Coventry and I'm still getting 6.25%, but that's something completely different.)

Making racist remarks, posting pictures of genitalia and abusing the mods seem to be some reasons why people here have been PPRed.

Intastella (as their name suggests) is from another planet which runs about 15 mins ahead of ours, I am currently negotiating with Intastella for a racing results service to be emailed to me as soon as they see our results on their planet. Please keep quiet about it though I don't want competition to jack the price up.
