Agree with the above.
24 hours of no food, but hydration drinks - water, Lucozade, flat coke etc.
Then move on to dry toast. Thereafter whatever you can face, for example very small portions of soup, a little cooked chicken with a few snippets of salad, a tiny tuna salad, a boiled egg (you can take all day to eat any one small dinner, that's OK, you're just working on getting some vits etc into you). Keep the portions small, the foods lightly cooked, tasty and fresh. You are trying to tempt yourself to eat. Choose items that appeal (and sometimes this surprises you - when I am 'off my food' I quite happily eat a boiled egg chopped up in a mug with butter and pepper...never eat it any other time though!)
If you are still "evacuating" food after 3 or 4 days I'd say seek Doc advice.0 -
Agreed on the dry toast and flat coke, my mother always had flat ginger ale (Canada dry?) ready too - I also agree that if you've been unable to keep things "down" since Tuesday - that's five days and far too long in my opinion to go without seeing a professional.
Hope you're both better very soon!0 -
Agree with everyone else - STOP EATING to give your system a better chance to rid itself of the bug - plenty of water and ideally get some sachets of diarolyte (sorry, know the spelling is wrong but hopefully the chemist will know what I mean - also available in Tesco's etc.). Just puts the important minerals, etc. back into your system to help you recover.
Good luck!Make the most of everything in life (especially Avon)

Agree that you should starve for 24 hours and take on plenty of fluids.
Then introduce dry toast with banana or a little scrambled egg (just egg - no milk or butter). If you can keep that down, try to eat little and often to avoid overloading your digestive system to soon.
If your symptoms persist, you really should see a doctor as a simple stomach bug shouldn't last more than a couple of days.0 -
As already been said ,just fluids and lots of them.
Dont drink too much plain wate though as you can flush all your salts away ,get some rehydrating drinks or mix your own will with sugar ,salt and water ( not sure of quantities but a chemist should be able to advise .0 -
When my son had a really bad stomach bug when he was little the doctor recommended feeding him anything that 'sets'. Eg eggs, jelly, blamange, angel delight (made with skimmed milk) as it helps to 'set' what's inside you. I was quite sceptical at first but was amazed to say it made a really big difference. Hope you're feeling better soon20K by Xmas 2010 (10 in 10 challenge - debt):

Hello there - hope you are now feeling better.
Most bugs dont last more than a few days - so go see your GP if you both still have symptoms today.
make sure you arent passing the germs to eachother - use hand gel and separate towels - even separate bathrooms if you have two.
Good foods are
Eggs
Bananas
Flat coke
and low fibre foods like white bread, rice, plain noodles, toast.
Try something like probiotic yogurt to replace the friendly bacteria in the gut - this sometimes helps.
And avoid tea and coffee, and fags/ alcohol - they are all laxatives.

Then that's also the thinking behind the old recommendation for plain 'arrowroot biscuits', arrowroot being a form of starchy thickener, which we were always given as children! etc!! Suggested for settling morning sickness too.

Thanks guys!
I am glad to report I have no icky feelings and only normal amount of toilet usage since yesterday. Still feel very weak and faint, think that is a combination of it being that time of the month and the lack of food. OH is better but is about a day behind me so is still a bit iffy.
I don't feel hungry etc but need to so will start with a jacket potato, proper comfort food
Still don't know what this bug is but have apparently given it to a couple of people at work which is not good when we are already short staffed! Hoping to be back at work tomorrow so will have to eat lots today.
Thanks so much for the advice guys

You should be clear of "symptoms" for 48 hours before going back to work - my kids schools are quite strict on this.0
