i was thinking that this might be a nice idea to recognise the hard work of contributors to the site, and our appreciation for it.
i know we have post of the month, but quite often this is dominated by threads that have made an impact on a large number of people. unfortunately, this means that those that give a piece of really sound advice to an individual often go unnoticed by the majority for their contribution to the forum, which is a shame.
im not suggesting we should be awarding £50 prizes left, right and centre - that just wouldnt be feasable. however, it would be nice for those who go out of their way to help others receiving some well deserved praise in the 'public eye' as it were, where more members are likey to come across it.
i know the that the thanks button offers a means of expressing gratitude, but it has come to have such a generic meaning on this site - i agree, very funny, thanks that was helpful - and it would be nice to have a special way of thanking those who truly help you in one way or another.
anyway, hopefully people will like the idea, and it takes off.
i'd like to get the ball rolling with a big thanks and thumbs up for pchelpman, whose clear advice has resolved a very annoying PC problem thats been bugging me for ages

Hi pavlov's dog, please do post stuff like this on the post of the month thread, that's what it's for, to make people aware of the help that's been given on here.
It may well be that the person only helped you personally and not lots of others but if that help has made a ton of difference for you then it's just as valuable as a tip that's saved people loads or a thread that's inspired people. Even if the person doesn't win I still think it's great that you've recognised how much they've helped you and taken the time to make a separate post to say so.
Take care
