Mobile sending a blank text every 3 hours

Hi all

I've done a google to no avail so I thought I'd ask the professionals on here ;)

Since last night at 9.21pm, my house phone (sms enabled) has been receiving a blank text message from my father-in-law's mobile phone!!!

Now, my FIL is on PAYG and has the phone for emergencies only and so has to make a call every 6 months to stop them closing his account! He did this last night and then tried to check the balance (not sure of exact details, FIL is technophobe).

Ever since then we have been receiving these blank texts at 21:21, 00:20, 03:21 <sob>, 06:21 and 09:21.

I've told him to ring his provider (not sure who, maybe O2) but thought I'd ask here in the meantime.

It's an old Nokia handset, 6310 maybe, or similar.

Sorry for the vagueness :o

Maybe he phoned you at 9:21pm and tried to leave a voicemail on your home number. Have you checked if you have voicemails which you have not listened to?

is he been charged each time?

Don't the BT phones have a reminder on them? ie don't you need to delete the message or it will keep reminding you there is a message? dunno?!

I've seen phones where the 'I sent the text' flag didn't set right so the phone just keeps sending.
Best way to clear that would be to take the battery off while the phones on, leave it off a couple of minutes and then put back together.
The same effect is possible if the network server has the same error but you need the network support team to sort that one out...

    Problem solved :)

He rang O2 and they recognised it as a fault that happens on their system sometimes when a blank text is sent. Their system thinks the message has not sent properly so it resends!!

He had not even known he had sent a text, he was repeatedly pressed the wrong button thinking he was cancelling his attempts to check his balance :D

The lovely lady at O2, who was unfamiliar with FIL's handset, managed to talk him through the menus and helped him send hiomself a text message which reset the while thing :D
