Another DFS threa...

Hello people. Been sitting here all morning with a coffee reading everyone's bad experiences with DFS. Mine isn't bad yet so I'm feeling okay. Just want your advice.
Went to DFS on Monday and found a sofa (£897) and chair+stool (£598) that I love. I was told it would take 12 weeks to deliver and all that. Walked out and tried to forget about it because I'm not in desperate need of a new sofa. Slept on it, but still feeling the same way. Want it.
Went back yesterday to purchase and noticed a big sign on the sofa telling me that I could have the sofa and a pouffe for £1059 and the chair+stool for £549, available for immediate delivery. Managed to get the sofa (on it's own without the pouffe) down to £850. So all in all I've saved £96. I'm getting the display sofa which I don't mind. Still the same price on the website and in other stores, apparently they're getting rid of it because they need more space.
Talked to the sales person and we spoke at length about STAINGUARD. They'll do their best to get rid of any stains or fix the stitching if necessary. Is this worth the money? It's costing £233. The sofa is white, but I don't (really) expect to spill anything on it. I don't have children and have OCD when it comes to cleaning.
He told me it would only cost £165, but upon checking the figures it's actually £233.
I also wasn't told that I'd pay £30 for delivery and wasn't told that an extra £25 would be added on to my bill for, what's listed as, 'new cherish care kit' - anyone know what this is?
Should I cancel the Stainguard?

Cherish care kit contains 12 cleaning cloth sachets and 12 protecting cream sachets and a tube of ink away.
We have had our leather suite from dfs for about a year now. We were talked into the stain guard, I think we paid about £170, this included 2 boxes of the cherish care kit.
Not sure if it was worth the extra for stainguard, we got it because we have never owned a leather suite before.
I have 2 teenage sons and ours still looks ok (ours is black mind)
You will need to keep treating the leather with some form of protecting cream.0 -
cancel the stainguard. its just a con. they make massive profits from it.
staff can be fired for not selling enough stainguard warranties. or whatever they call it.Get some gorm.0 -
Thanks both.
After I posted above, I emailed the store to tell them to cancel Stainguard/Leather Care Cover.
Don't know why I didn't just tell them to FO with it last night. I don't buy extra insurance/warranty with anything else. Don't know why I did with this.
What if they come back to me saying 'no, you agreed'. Sofa isn't coming for three weeks and I gather I have some type of cooling off period since I was only at the store last night?0 -
if your not needing a new sofa, why buy one?
& why were you in DFS?
for those sort of prices, if you really wanted a leather sofa, your not far off from going to a firm that specialises in leather furniture, would be better than DFS.
Stainguard? i assume thats some sort of warranty, & surely all its going to cover is what they should already be covering under the Sale of Goods act.
if the stitching starts to go in 2 years time, they cant claim that a sofa is only supposed to last 1 year!
ex-display
yikes that sofa wont have been used, it will have been abused, all sorts of people sitting on it, poking it, kids jumping on it etc etc
& for all that, you got £47 off
as its all ex-display, i would have expected 20% off (at least) & some freebies, like the cleaning kit & free delivery0 -
Yay.
'You may cancel this policy by advising the retailer from whom the Leather Product was purchased within 30 days of the Commencement Date and receive a full refund of any premium paid, providing no claims have been made'.
Happy now. Was waiting for someone to tell me it was a con.0 -

Oh please don't depress me.0 -
Ignore edgex - just how many children did you see on both visits of your store? Were any acting in the way edgex describes?
Maybe they let their children carry on like that, but not everybody else does.Everybody is equal; However some are more equal than others.0 -
ive actually seen the weekly staff meetings at a furniture store on saturday mornings.
(i was a sub contractor).
80% of the time was spent on training to sell the warranties!
i remember one chap who had the 2nd best sales figures, got a real kicking cause his warranty sales were below par.Get some gorm.0 -

so in an hour (max) across 2 visits, when not all the time was spent looking & watching the particular sofa, they are supposed to use that observation to know how that sofa has been treated since it was first put on display?
the problem with ex-display items of furniture, electronics etc is that you simply do not know what has happened to it.
& as it happens, i havnt got children
but i have seen plenty of people who are unable to control their children, & it happens quite often in shops0 -
Thanks for this really useful thread. Just done the same thing myself... signed up for the £170 satin cover when I never ever usually buy the extra insurance
Thought it was a good idea with a baby on the way but when I read the small print and list of exclusions...i'm not really sure what IS included?? Doesn't cover paint, bleach, curry, ink :eek:Addicted to MSE0
