Can anyone help me out?? Have friends coming to stay this coming weekend and want to make something nice for dinner but for cheapo prices!
Was thinking of maybe a curry night but 1 person is veggie. Any ideas on starters/ mains etc? any other bright ideas appreciated!0 -
Wasn't the winning Jamie Oliver meal for a fiver recipe Indian inspired and vegetarian? I remember thinking it would be good for entertaining vegetarians. There's a link to the thread on the GC thread I think0

I've got a courgette curry recipe which I find really easy and really tasty too. I can type it up if it interests you. Goes well with rice, so if you still want to cook a meat dish too, you could make a small veggie curry, larger meat one and lots of rice and nann bread/popadoms
Alternatively how about some homemade pizzas? they're so easy to make and you could do some veggie and some meat (i don't know how many people you're catering for). I have a great new potato, garlic and rosemary pizza recipe that has impressed several meat eaters.0 -

I also have a real problem with doing something specially for the "poor old veggies". You are meant to be eating together. The carnivores all compliment you on the meat option: how do you think that will make them feel?
There are some fabulous so-called "vegetarian" dishes out there, which just happen not to have any meat in them. The cheese, peppers and curry should be easy to work around.
PS. JoJoB's post has just sparked a flash of inspiration. Why not combine his suggestions and do savoury rice "fish"cakes with the spicy tomato coulis? I can just see that on "Masterchef"!
This may be an old comment now, but it is fantastic :T0 -
Hello

If I'm having people round I cook in the Rayburn. I can't see the point of having a SC on as well, when I'm baking bread, a pudding and a starter in the oven anyway

Lucky you having a rayburn. I wish I had one.
I have done Delia's Beef in Beer in the slow cooker for guests and it went down very well.0 -
I do lamb shanks...chuck in some big chunks of veg, onions, a couple of sprigs of rosemary and about 1/4 of a botle of red wine along with the shanks. Wonderful served with champ.0

Beef stroganoff.
I just throw in my beef strips, onions and mushrooms with about half a bottle of white wine. About 10 mins before serving add your Sour cream. Mmmmmm...
Because your using the SC you can use cheaper cuts of meat like braising steak as they come out just as tender as a fillet.0
