After a protracted battle with HSBC who will soon have me as an ex-customer after failing to show the requisite amount of enthusiasm in the most recent phone call, I'm delighted to follow Pencekeeper in announcing that our mortgage has now also finally gone away.

Congratulations Billy - just as you said you were looking forward to my post I've looked forward to this one from you. Within a day of each other - brilliant.

BTW I also had a less than stellar phone call with my lender when making the last payment as not only did they fail to say well done, but they tried to charge me £90 even though I told them I didn't need to pay it. 10 minutes later and insisting they double check it turns out I was right all along.

I hope you're not going to desert the MSE forum now you've achieved your goal. Enjoy the well deserved blowout mate (and buy that iPhone!).

    Pencekeeper.

PS I told you you'd post in the MF roll thread before me!

Made my October OP today and will update sig after the regular payment goes out on 1st of November. I also have £4k saved which I hope to use to pay off the balance in December. We had a quote for a new fence this week - £1200! (There are about 16 panels to replace) and while it is tempting to try and get stuff done to avoid the rise in VAT in the new year, it is not as tempting as the prospect of being MF! I get paid tomorrow and will add all my wages to the savings pot - even if I have to 'borrow' it back to pay bills at the end of the month!

    Good luck all.

PS forgot to say congrats to pencekeepr and wynnvegas - amazing achievement! I have overpayed £43083 since Sept 2002 and it has been a real struggle to keep focussed, what with two DDs to put through uni and a wedding - thanks for the inspiration from folks like you - I hope to be joining you in December!

Thanks Luv2, Nellis and Kerry. Comments and support much appreciated.

pencekeeper - sorry to fire in there before you but I do think you're better waiting until the payment hits to proclaim your achievement to the world. I was busy refreshing the bank until it went away earlier this afternoon! I've scheduled a break tomorrow to pop out and grab the iphone to see what all the fuss is about. No chance of me running away - I'll just cheer now from the sidelines!!

    Cheers,

    Billy

Not at all Billy - I'm more than happy to see your post there. I think there's quite a nice symetry that my final payment was the 27th, yours is today, and the official MF date for me is tomorrow when the bank balance actually changes. So kind of a 3 day period there where some very good things are happening.

I know I'm looking forward to logging in to Internet Banking tomorrow and then joining you in the MF roll.

    Hi Pencekeeper,

I enjoyed my logging in today. Under mortgage, it now just informs me that "you have no products in this range to view" - a lovely summary to look at! Many congratulations on finally (and conclusively) getting it down to next to nowt. My family and friends have all been really supportive and congratulatory which has been brilliant as well so I hope you get the same reaction over the weekend.

    Cheers,

    Billy

What now? Um, enjoy the weekend surprising my family as they know my general goal but not how close I've been. Compose something for the MF roll! And boring but build up some savings whilst I still have a job but maybe with slightly slackened wallet strings :P

How brilliant, they will be surprised and pleased:j:j:j
    Enjoy it!

    Hi all,

Figures are in my sig but for records sake I have OP'd £1300 + £100 normal OP for November :j

Wish I could OP that every month :D

My total for the year so far is £5788/£3000 which is a whopping 192% of my target
Cake I have realised that I have been forgetting the £2 extra each month as my normal payment should be £594 but my standard OP makes my payments £696 so £102 extra not £100. so this is why my payments were not matching up on my SS!

PS: Congratulations to Pencekeeper and Wynnvegas!!! What a fab achievement. I only hope that MSE is still running in 9 or 10 years for me to make my ending post!! :o
    MPs left feb '08 276- Dec 13 36 :T MB Jan 10 ~ £82,377 Dec 13 ~ £29987
EMFD was Feb 32  NOW Dec 2013 its Dec 2016

Hello all, overpayment going in today will be for £540 taking me three quid oveer the target.

Really happy, we got a deduction off of our Service Charge and also off of Sky so it allowed us to overpay extra and put more money into our Savings and 'Baby Account'!

Really happy, still going to overpay next month but it's nice to reach the target we wanted, funny how it works out like that aswell when you make the estimate at the start of the year.

Thanks again, you have all helped and without this site I would have probably overpaid £0 rather than the £7426.22 since last June.
