Which is better? - "Furnished upon request" or "Available on request"

I've read example CVs about having the phrase "Furnished upon request" or "Available on request" in the 'Reference' section of the CV.
Which one is better?
Opinions appreciated. I have the phrase "Furnished upon request" in the 'Reference' section of the CV.

Available on request is the best form to use. if you are successful in gaining another job then the new employer will know to contact your existing employers if and when you are successful.
Furnished upon request just doesn't make sense!
Or do not bother to put such a phrase on your CV - references will be taken up if and when they are required.0 -
depends if you are applying for a job in the 18th century or not ;-)
available.Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.0 -
If you were advertising a flat for rent then 'furnished upon request'. If you advertise yourself then 'available upon request'. Alternatively, put your referee details on your CV to bypass this problem.Success and failure is determined by effort.0

I would suggest you never include referee details on a CV. It takes up space which could be more effectively used in selling your skills. For that reason too, don't bother even to say "References available", it's a given.0 -
Ok, I will change it to 'Available upon request'.
Do agencies accept updated CVs? I gave my CV in last week. That's the only change I will need.0 -

They will accept but what they do about it is up to them. Some re-do in a standard form any way.
What form did it take? Was it electronically or on paper?0 -

It was paper format.0 -
In terms of language, both ways are acceptable.
I personally think available on request is better. Also remember not to include referee details without their prior permission as it is classed as personal data under the data protection act.0 -
Of the two I would suggest Available on request is better, however you do not need to put anything, if references need to be taken then the agency or any new employer will ask you for them. Better save the space to fill with more important information.
You can send the updated CV to the agency but to be honest for such a small change they may not bother switching them.0 -

Strictly speaking, don't put your referee details on there. However if you know someone who is well known and respected in that industry / area then it's not a waste of space.Success and failure is determined by effort.0
