    i don't agree.
i find it very sad that so many people hold this view..work to live don't live to work.
life's what you make it and it totally depends on what you are looking for in a job...

Ahh, if we all thought that there would be so many people not working that the government would be getting so little tax that they couldnt affort to pay for the likes of you to go to uni!
When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.
  • ofcourse i want another job, more challenging but i know that for the time being (i.e. the next few months) it would be foolish to quit the job i have in this economic climate. I don't think it's very fair that I am being judged for decisions that I am making about my own life from complete strangers - i am merely asking for advice on how to achieve getting more hours.

I'm not going to tell you how to run your life, that's not up to me nor anyone else on this forum either.
However, you do seem to be in a situation where you are stuck in a rut concerning your hours? I was in a similar situation recently with my job and just decided to look for another one. Lack of experience can also equate to lack of confidence too. Perhaps you need to move out of your comfort zone a bit?
  • it really annoys me how people make assumptions about others they know nothing about.

i wasn't even asking whether i should work full time or not.tsk

    I was thinking that too.

If there are regular hours in the other branch that 'compete' with the hours available in your own branch you are going to have to ask both branch managers for clarity.

If you have asked your branch manager for regular long shifts, so you can work in both branches but they cannot accommodate you, then you need to find out if the second branch can give you regular long shifts and accept those if they are available - and offer your original branch any 'spare' days you have.

My student DD has a well paid admin job, she usually works holidays and 1 or 2 days in term time. Her time table this year means she can only do 1 day; work keep asking her to do more, but it cannot be done without her missing key lectures. I have advised her to be clear about what she can do, and to take the risk that they will not offer her any days - if teh worst comes to the worst she will need to find other part-time work. Her work is living with it - she is effective and trained and available to cover key holidays so thye value that.

Good luck - I think you are being both loyal and sensible.

its hard for graduates to find a job?

Im sure there must be some jobs going.

I was in one supermarket today and they had 4 shelf stacking jobs, and 3 till jobs. Another had vacancies. There are jobs if you look!

why would someone go to uni to get a degree so they can stack shelves after?

Surely its better to work in any job then no job till they are capable of getting a more desirable job? get into employment and start paying some proper taxes is what I say.

it makes it a lot harder to get a decent job if your CV is full of mininum wage shelf stacking jobs
