There may be more we do not know though. The fee could be for stuff stolen by her on a previous day for all we know.
It could be totally unrelated and they could be asking her to contribute to your regular trip to button moon for all we know. I am sure if they were seeking money for another incident they would have put it in the letter. As for a store as large as TK Maxx, I bet they put civil recovery out to a cowboy DCA and chance it like that. It's just speculation and opinion though - like nearly everything you have posted but with more grounding in reality. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

I'm making the point that the OP has only seen a letter asking for £139 compensation. I bet the £3 shampoo wasn't even mentioned in the letter, that info was probably obtained from the daughter's version of what happened, which may be totally different to what actually happened. The original post is based on complete hearsay, the OP wasn't even there and he/she has heard only the daughters version of events, she is a) mentally unwell and b) a thief (whether it can be proved in court or not is irrelevant) so I'm suggesting that there's a strong possibility there is more to this than we have heard so far.
To me it doesn't make sense that they would ask for a £100+ fee, if this was just over a £3 bottle of shampoo that was mistakenly taken out and handed back immediately, so there's a good chance there is more to it. If the OP learns more about the situation then obviously an update will be welcome...0 -
What a fantastic work of FICTION this whole story is !!!0

Can I just clarify, are you implying there's something wrong with pure science degrees because they're nothing to do with people? That's funny, to try and tell someone that he's a bigot because of his views on those with Autism, you bash the degrees that people with Autism are more attracted to. Irony much?
What degree do you have?
(For the record, I do not agree with pendulum either)0 -

Eeek no not at all! My baby brother is studying maths and I nearly applied for it myself! I was just trying to show that having a degree does not mean someone knows how people work! After all, if I had a degree in modern languages I wouldn't claim knowledge of maths. I think you've misinterpreted my comment.
Ashamed to admit my degree is Social and Political Science, which is probably of less use to the world than most pure science degrees!0 -

Fair enough, although I think you made your point well enough with the Daily Mail comment0 -

That was one of the best lines I have read.It is sad that some people still harbour views that have no place in modern society.0 -
The Mental Health Act can only be applied under certain conditions. For a person to be detained, there has to be proof that
He or she is suffering from a mental illness.
The illness is of a nature or degree.
There is significant risk of harm to the person;s health and safety or that of other people
All alternatives to treatment in the community have been exhausted.
I doubt the OP's daughter will fulfill the above criteria so she can be "locked up"0
