The wife had a 97 1.3SR, and it went like the proverbial off a shovel, and was ultra reliable in all the time she had it. She only sold it because she wanted a bigger car, so we bought an Astra G on a W plate.
I was travelling back from Manchestershire last week, over the old '62, and guess what passed me? Yes,her old Micra!!!!!
It now looks a little battered compared to what it was when she had it,which is a shame really as it was a bloody good motor.
Just broadening the Japanese car subject slightly.....
The neighbour swears by Japanese cars for their reliability and the ability to let the engines rev like crazy. He rebuilt a Nissan 200sx into a track car, and it was frighteningly quick and was doing about 350bhp. :eek:That's my mutt in the picture above.0 -

:rotfl:Oy watch it
. Glad the op is happy,
The issue I had with Micra's was that 2 guys at work got old ones for their kids, and both somehow trashed the engine, because of reasons I mentioned earlier, but yes good in general. The last Micra I actually drove was a 55 plte I think, not even sure of the engine size as it was the car I had the misfortune to be loaned when my car went in for waranty work.
Totally gutless and awefull to drive, but then again I am 6" 3' and didn't exactly fit.
They tried to loan me the same car next time mine went in, I decided to walk;);).I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

I had one of these years ago, a 1.0L and never had a moments trouble with it. It wasn't quick, but was quick enough for town use and I did a long commute on dual carriageways in it too. It took a while to get up to 70mph after a round about or junction but was fine accelerating from say 60 to 70 to overtake.
It was capable of cruising at 80 or 90 if you needed too but you'd struggle to get it above 90.
It wasn't thirsty either, I can't remember what figures I was getting but I think it was definitely over 40mpg. That was doing long runs but driving it quite hard.
I'd have one again if I was after a cheap economical run about, I really couldn't fault it. Spacious and a doddle to park compared to lots of other small cars.0 -

I got a 1999 1.3L special edition (can't remember what the model is but it's got central locking and so on). 100,000 miles but it's been very well looked after, is lovely and clean and has a full service history and old MOTs and receipts etc, and the seller has just been given a company car and was rather sad to see it go. I paid £650 but think it was worth more. Can't even begin to say how much I love it! I have just driven it home and was shocked at how much quicker it is than our 1.2L Punto, I found myself accidentally speeding a few times so will have to keep myself in check

Geeezz you got a bargain!
We sold my girlfriends bog standard 1.0l two weeks ago for £1100. It didn't have any fancy toys, only had an airbag and immobilisers as extras.
Well done you!0 -
Come on Cyclone - 'fess up ! What vehicle do you own and happily drive

Well purely down to practicallity and because I retired very early, (enforced) and needed a very cheap to run car, but also needed a big interior to carry the fishing gear and the kids building project materials.
After a good bit of research and tying out various cars I went for a 55 plte Renault Megane Sports Tourer or estate to you and me. Biggest rear seat and cargo space in the class, ie, focus, astra etc,
1460cc turbo diesel as fitted to the Nissan range, producing a reasonable 106bhp, not rapid but not shamed on the open road or around town, but gives at least 50mpg and the best I've seen over a 100 mile trip, 2 up and stuffed with the fishing gear, was 73mpg.
Yes I was a little concerned over reliablility, but 2 years later and no issues.
The reason I was loaned a micra was that the Renault main agent is also that for Nissan.
Yes I am used to faster cars, having had calibrs's, sri cavs, sri vectras etc over the last 20 years, even had 2 westfields and a cyclone as track day cars.
But we all get older,
Nissan micra, naw, not my cup of tea, to girly in every respect,
;), each to his her own:T I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

I am driving my sisters at the moment as my clio is in the garage, I think it's 98 or 99. My sister has had it for about 3 years and very little problems with it. I was amazed when she told me she is still on the same 1l bottle of oil that she brought when she 1st got it - despite doing alot of miles.
I do find it surprising nice to drive - it's nippy about town, I do about 70 on motorway with it, I have done 80 easily enough but 70 feels better. I'ts the 1.0 model I am driving.
So if you are looking for a cheap to buy and run older car which wont bring you many problems, if your not bothered about little luxuries or appearance I think the micra is a great choice!0 -
