your right bri but looks weren't high on the list of wants.

for sensible A to B motoring then you cant go far wrong with an older shape micra. (don't touch a new shape though.

The newone is so dam iffeminate that if my missus drove one I would assume she was a dyke.

Can't accept that the micra is anything other than bargain basement A to B transport, and thats providing A and B are dam close together

3 bearing crank equals disaster if any minor engine issues arise.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Compared to what?, a 20 tonne juggernaut? Sorry but they are slow:confused:, dam slow, and absolutely sluggish. If they break, and they do, it is terminal;)

I assume you have driven a 1.0l micra to make those comments because all the other posters who have made comments have done so, and their opinions are a little different to yours.

they don't have Cambelts so no need to worry about checking that out on a potential purchase .

My wife's never went wrong in 7 years ( with regular servicing) . it was perfectly fine to drive on motorways , okay it was no hot hatch , but i never had and issue with motorway drives with it .

the only reason we don't still have it even now is that my wife wrapped it around a tree 6 years ago , and the build quality of it probably saved her life.
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:
  • Agree with several other posters that the old 1L Micra is great. I used to drive mine from Dorset to Glasgow at least twice a year, with no problems at all. Naughty I know, but it can happily sit at 80/85mph on the motorway without any problems. Granted, I have never driven a big powerful car, but this felt fine to me.

Also, I had several minor bumps in mine and it fared quite well. They are very flimsy though, so a bigger crash would probably be the end of it.

With regards to the cam belt situation, yes they don't have one. However, they do have a timing chain instead, and if like me you fail to hear the warning noises that this needs replaced (around 60,000 miles), bad/expensive things can happen! However, even this was not the end of my trusty old micra!

Haven't owned one but people I know who have say they are a good little motor.
To check it out, along with other used cars have a look here:

    hope this helps.

Of course I have, unlike some I wouldn't post without 1st hand experience or knowledge.

I was loaned a fairly new Micra when my car went in shop for a protracted length of time, (2 weeks I think), probably a 55 reg or such, can't be precise as I am trying to forget the experience:rolleyes:

    So, to address your point now I have made it clear, or at least I hope I have;

The Micra is the most gutless, feminine, (no disrespect, but it is), car that I have had the displeasure to have driven.

Accept it or not, the engines are fine, even good, but they are throw away units thats self destruct under anymore stress than the puny engine can produce.:p

We also borrowed a much older Micra, same but even worse, bit like an old Fiesta but not quite as bad.

Good choice in my opinion. Like other say here it does what's promised on the tin.

However, I would look for the 1.4 from 2000 and on, it's an 82ps and the one I had was quick and frugal.

Well I have bought one! I got a 1999 1.3L special edition (can't remember what the model is but it's got central locking and so on). 100,000 miles but it's been very well looked after, is lovely and clean and has a full service history and old MOTs and receipts etc, and the seller has just been given a company car and was rather sad to see it go. I paid £650 but think it was worth more. Can't even begin to say how much I love it! I have just driven it home and was shocked at how much quicker it is than our 1.2L Punto, I found myself accidentally speeding a few times so will have to keep myself in check :o
