Stinky kitten paws....

I picked up my gorgeous little red pointed Siamese cat on Tuesday and however much I love him to bits, I dont love his smelly wee-wee paws!
Can anyone offer a suggestion to this? Is this something he will grow out of as he doesnt seem to groom himself very much at the mo but I thought this may come with age?....
I wouldnt mind so much if he didnt insist on sitting on my chest/neck when I watch telly or in bed but the smell then lingers on me and my other half is finding it slightly off putting bless him! :rotfl:
If the only answer is to wash him (the kitten not my other half!) then can anyone tell me the best way of going about this? I dont want to scare kitty half to death! I would prefer to do this as a last resort in all honesty!

    hi,

I have never had to clean my cats (yet) but i did see some wipes in pets at home the other day. looked like wet wipes - maybe these would be easier to do than actually bathing him?

Have you observed him go to the toilet and looked at changing the cat litter set up? You may need a larger tray so he doesn't have to stand in his doings, a second tray so he always has a clean one, to scoop more often (no offense), to use a more absorbent litter or to fill the tray more deeply.

Is there enough litter in ther tray? What type of litter is it? :) I'd find it off putting too, you cat should smell clean and pleasant. If he's little maybe he's just getting to grips with things.

I know siamese people often say not to brush, but gentle brushing will encourage him to lick himself (and you) or even justa dab witha very slightly damp facecloth should get him grooming. Alternatively, you cansometimes encourage licking by scratching/rubbing gently but firmly around the lower back towards base of tail and top of back legs.

    Thanks guys,
I have been reading the threads on here with regards to litter and trays etc. and think I have had it all sorted from the begining and try scooping as soon as he's done the business so dont think it stems from there. He had stinky paws from the day I picked him up (I could smell them from the carrier in the car on the way home) but the house he came from was absoloutely immaculate- his surroundings and his room were so clean and the other cats around the house were too so not sure why he stank even then?
I've had cats before from kittens (not Siamese) and I dont remember them smelling like little one does now and one of them was a long haired persian and I would have expected it from him!

I will try the wipes first to see if it has any effect but failing that it may be a wash! Any tips on handwashing a kitten? lol.

Actually we had to when one of ours was sick. You need to have somewhere he can dry that is warm.

I'd really try and avoid it, but perhaps wipe his feet with a wet cloth, get him cleaning. If he doesn't I'd be on the phone to the breeder and ask some advice/ or the vet.

BTW, if you have a bath, if you are really lucky you might have a bath loving siamese. One of mine is, the other isn't. She doesn't like to get wet, but to sit on my shoulders/neck/tummy and enjoy the warmth and the scents nd perhaps take a swipe at any bubbles.

My male kitten is a bit of a rotter, he rarely cleans himself, he goes in behind my fridge and lies down in the cellar type bit and as he is white, he comes out black!

What I do, is just flick him with a bit of water when he stinks, and he goes off to clean himself for about 3hours. He likes water so no harm, but if I did it to my older one she'd not talk to me for a week!

He also loves the bath, and has fallen in plenty of times, trying to get that rubber duck....

Buttonmoons thats a good idea- thanks! I will try it tonight!

I am also due a bath soon (joke- I usually shower!) so will see if curiosity gets the better of him and he dips his paws in!

Lowis- he is the one on the far left!

Omg lovely!! Do siamese' ears stay that big in preportion to them? Reminds me of that little cute gizmo gremlin, from err gremlins!

I think my kitten has a bit of siamese in him from somewhere along the line, he has massive ears and a pointed face, and loves the sound of his own voice. He'll just walk around "Meeeooow? Mrrrrrrp! Brrp brrp meeeeeep!" I always think something is wrong with him but he just likes chatting away!

Awww! Dont let him out in the wind with those ears! I think he'd blow away like a kite!
It took my Maine Coons ages to grow into their ears actually.
Hes really loveable, Lish, wishing you many happy years together.
