I have a four bed detached house. Quite open plac downstairs. About 130sq metres total. We run the heating cooking and lighting and shower unit on electricity. We use gas for hot water. We use electric u'floor heating downstairs and marble radiators upstairs. Last year we used 9500 kwh worth of electricity. As for gas, well it was pennies really. Maybe about £25-£30 a quarter.Depend on the size, insulation and pattern of use.
The average UK customer with gas uses 20,500kWh gas and 3,300kWh electricity.
If you say the average gas boiler is 75% efficient - then 15,000kWh for CH, HW and possibly cooking.
So withe electric on average 18,000ish kWh pa. Probably less for a 2 bed flat and lower again if you are out at work all day.
I'm now looking at installing an air source heat pump / inverter air conditioner as these units are about 300% efficient. This should cut down my electricity consumption by 30% a year minimum. The house was built kin 1969, double glazed, insulated roof and cavity walls.
Hope this helps. I set the thermostat to 20 deg C during the autumn winter and the u'floor heating kicks in when the temp drops below this. i turn it all off during the night. Upstairs rads get switched on for 90 minutes and they take about 2.5 hours to cool down to luke warm.
I expected my annual elecricity consumption to be about 12000kwh and was pleased to find it ended up lower which gave me faith in the systems i chose to install.0
