help lost alot of fv channels

Ive got some new channels but lost all my old ones. I have no sky sports news, bbc news 24, sky news, bbc1 bbc2, itv2, some channels dont even have a picture either. All the music channels are ok.

What can i do i have retuned and searched for new channels several times?

What happened to my channels. My area isnt due for upgrade yet.

  • It could be that your box isn't compatable with the new freeview service. On the 2nd they started switching to the new 8K service from 2K. This means that many old set top boxes and freeview tv's will start to lose channels immediately. Loss of BBC1 and BBC2 is the prime example of this. Before accepting this tho, make sure you rescan your channels if you get no joy its time for a new box. Go to UKfreetv for info on 8k incompatable boxes you will find it on the digital switchover section
  • for the interested reader the 8k and 2k refer to the memory required for the new service and is due to an increase in the size of the Network Information Table (channel list) which exceeds the memory available in some set-top boxes. Older set top boxes dont have enough memory and therefore will start to lose channels until they lose them all in December.
  • Does this apply even if your signal is received via the TV itself? My parents have also lost some channels, but don't have a box.

There's a product list on the Freeview site:

No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
