OH is surprisingly good, but he lives on his own at the moment so has to do cleaning!

We shall have to wait and see.

I've just been chuckling at your tales of your OH's ineptitude in the housework department - my hubby purposely breaks glasses when he washes up. He says it's unintentional, but he can't possibly break THAT many by accident!!

LOVED your post about the DFW board - it's just what I needed to hear after all the talk of us being split up here, there and everywhere.

Well, it's only the truth. The people on here are all strangers to one another. They have never met, or seen what anyone else looks like. Yet when one of us calls out for help the rest rally round with offers of support, practical help and advice and ink cartridges (see Hypno and the Amazing Skiing Children). It's really heartwarming to see, and a very interesting situation. Is it only people with that sort of nature that seek out these boards when the financial poop hits the air conditioning unit, or is it that being in this situation makes us more amenable to other people's problems? Nature or nurture? Whatever it is, it's been a godsend to me, and to countless other people, and I reckon we should knock a few footballers off the Queens Honours list to make way for a certain DFW Member 000, if he stops scaring Lorraine Kelly long enough to accept the award.....I swear she thinks he's going to leap up and bite her, especially if you mention consolidation loans.....

  • :rotfl: Anyone would think it was Friday afternoon! You have been making me chuckle at work and now everyone knows i am either mad or skiving on the net:o

I have had similar thoughts regarding the boards. There are so many posters that seem to post once or twice desperate for help and most never come back. I think a lot of people think there is a magic wand we can wave to make the debt go away and I wish that we could, but it doesnt generally work like that and I suspect many of us cling to the boards to make sure we stay focused and dont pop to Marks for a few yummy snacks or phone up for takeaway all the time.

I am in for the long haul and I am not going anywhere (except on holiday) until the mortgage is gone, so by my reckoning thats about 25-30 years  I may have grandkids by then

lol, then you can take the grandkids out! Long haul is good, lets face it you didn;t spend it all overnight, so it aint going to go overnight. I just did my snowball - Skint Til 2012  Still, it's a date, and one that can only come down. The problem I'm having is our income is a bit unceratin at the moment, been advised that we can either claim Income support as a family, or my maternity plus his JSA, so got to work out what is going to be better for us.

As for skiving on the net - you're simply demonstrating a motivation to handle budgets, finances and cut outgoings, and are doing the appropriate research to hone these skills. The company should be proud to have a dedicated worker........

Obi, will you be able to get Tax Credits on maternity & JSA? Or on the other foot, will the DSS give any help with your mortgage (wow, that reads very well - Obi's mortgage!)......

Either way, I'm sure you will have every penny working to its full capacity for you & yours.

I alredy receive tax credits, the amount I get will undoubtably affect the others. We had a chat last night (and getting Mr Obi to talk about finances is like pulling teeth) and decided that we'd simply not claim the JSA a) he hates going to the centre, being spoken to like an X Factor reject and being forced to look for 'proper jobs' (he's part time where he is, and needs to be available for overtime as part of his contract, but teh Job Centre don't understand that and keep trying to get him to apply for other jobs) and b) it's more than likely his hours will go back up before too long - there's another full time meber of staff who everyone (including him) thinks will be shown the door next week, so they'll need Mr Obi to fill in. Seems a lot of mucking about for £180 a month that will in all likelyhood get paid once before his hours change.

Goning to be a busy day for me chicks - The Move happens in a week, and we only just got the work references through. Argh!!! We have to be out of here byt eh 5th October, so I'm going to ring the vendors direct (if you recall it's a repo, and it's a company selling on behalf of the bank) and see if they'll either let us move the furniturre in to save storage, or let us move in and pay rental until the paperwork gets sorted. You don't know if you don't ask.

On the upside, we got a letter through about his tribunal with his ex company - they offered £500 as full and final, only about half what he should get but it's exactly the shortfall on the deposit, and means no 2 hour round trip to Hull with a lot of stress (cos he doesn't do confrontation). So that's a weight off. Now all my ebaying and savings can go on the debt! Yay!!

But it's still a panic. And to make matters worse, I lost the remote that puts the TV onto the DVD channel, and the LoveFilm trtial DVDs have started arriving. Davina's pre & post natal yoga is sitting there calling, followed by a dollop of Keanu in Constantine, and I got Dumbo because DD will love it, and becasue the pink elephants freak Mr Obi out. I can feel my pelvic floor prolapsing as we speak. It'll turn up in the last thing, in the last room we pack. Typical.

So hopefully a no spend for me today - I need to go pay the rent, did the shopping yesterday (tenner at the market, £6.50 at Nettos for cans etc - I'm back on form ladies!!) but I am tempted by the bread tin in the pound shop, as for some reason the bread in my breadmaker always comes out a bit stodgy and chewy. But it's not neccessary, so it can wait.

So have a good day, my friends, make sure you spend a little and live a lot, as the advert runs.

And some good news chicks - just picked up the post,

    1) one of my creditors has accepted my offer of payment in installments,
    2) another has written off the debt of £300!!
    3) and I got a note from Virgin - yes my calls are going up a bit (the ones I pay for anyways) but if I register for e-billing it knocks 50p off my line rental. Every little helps! Saving of £6 a year. Better in my pocket than theirs.
    4) I'm going to see if FIL will take over the car as he's got the use of it and we don't need it, thus cutting a massive £8k off our debt!!! Yay!!!

    So happy bunny here.
