1.9% pa BTs for <5 months with egg

Hot off the ether:

"**1.9%** pa on balances transferred to Egg Card
in January 2005.

One of the benefits of being an Egg customer is the
opportunity to transfer balances from other cards at
a special rate at certain times.

This e-mail is to inform you that any balances you
transfer to Egg Card between now and 31 January will
be at the rate of **1.9%** pa fixed until 1 June 2005,
and then at **14.9%** pa (variable).

Select the link below to find out more about balance
transfers at this special rate."

Not as good as 0%, but still much better than any other non-0% deals out there. It will take me nicely up to my egg anniversary :)

edit:
NB: Not everyone is getting the same offer in their email, some people are getting 3.9% as seen below and in this thread. Best to ask via Secure Message to confirm if you can have 1.9%

  • Interesting, my daughter received a similar email, but only offering her 3.9% >:(

edit:  also interesting - using your link I get to the information, but cannot find it on the web site without using the link.

further edit: I have now had an email providing the same link as yours. Another nice help, as my anniversary is May, so that is now 10 months very very low interest.

I wonder what - if any - email my husband and son will get.
  • My anniversary offer is in June, so its ideal for me too.

Quick question regarding the BT I'm gonna do: I made a purchase within the last month but haven't yet recieved a statement for it. I made a one-off payment yesterday afternoon which will clear to my account in 2 working days (it was made after 2pm unfortunately). This will pay the purchase off in full and zero my balance. My question: Do I need to recieve statement that I have a 0.00 balance before I do a BT, in order to avoid interest on the previous purchase? Or does a 0.00 balance on the Recent Transactions page suffice?

edit: just checked my statements from last year, and it's not necessary to wait for a statement, just for the payments to clear and recent transactions to show 0.00 balance. Extra tip don't forget to try raising your limit with egg first, I managed to get another 1k rise yesterday :)

  • Ain't got one? :'(

I was recently refused for a rate rise, so don't think it wise to try again so soon. £7500 not a bad limit anyway. Just hope my husband gets an offer for his £11500 (unused) limit at present. His anniversary is July, so would be great if we could get his as well.

Don't be put off by being refused in the recent past. Since November I've got a 1k rise, then tried for more in dec but failed, then got another 1k rise yesterday. Last time I checked my Credit Report after requesting credit increases, egg had only made 'Unrecorded Enquiries' to my credit file which other lenders can't see.

Might be worth firing off a secure message from your hubbies account and ask if he can get an offer too :)

    Already done that.

Did you do an on line request for credit increase, or did you phone them?

  • Brilliant - just got another £500 on mine, and £1000 on hubby's - maybe I should have asked for more, but didn't want to be greedy. How long do you think I should wait before trying again?

Over a period of about 10 days I increased my credit limit at £2,000 a time from £2,000 to £14,000. I had had the account for about 4 months and was refused earlier online credit increases.

  • Thanks for that - will give it a go on Monday then.
