Economy Tyres

Hi - wonder if you can help me.

have found the Etyre website from searching on here for cheap tyres and they are cheaper than myy local garage for 'economy tyres'.
I was wondering if it is OK getting the cheapest tyre or whether I should pay a bit more. The tyres that I am going for are £38 each and I have an Astra.
I just dont know what difference it will make if any and dont really want to spend a lot as the car is only worth about £1500

Thanks in advance

I use to put economy tyres on my car. The reason being

    1) I rarely carrried passengers
    2) I did not drive long distances
    3) I rarely if ever drove on the motorway
    4) My husband did a weekly visual check when the oil and water was checked. To check for bulges and wear and tear.

I felt for those reason I could get away with economy tyres.

But if I had children or did long distances and/or drove a lot on the motorway I would then buy more expensive brand named tyres.

Mind you one thing I would never do no matter how hard up I was. Would be to buy part worn tyres. My husband had a colleague who did that. And they had a baby and I was like

Never, ever ever would I do that even if I only took myself in my car.

Is it a brand that you have heard of or not. Why do some checking out of that brand on the internet to see what people think.

    Yours

Many of the economy tyre brands are actualy made by the big manufacturers, however I would still pay a little more for a decent tyre as they do perform better and will last longer so cheap ones can be a false economy. I always remind myself that those four rubber rings are the only thing keeping me on the road so tend to think that they are worth spending a little on whatever your car is worth.

I agree with plane_boy. I usually get the low rolling resistance fuel-saver type tyres as that's what came on my car. Last time I got Pirellis as KwikFit didn't have any of the Continental tyres I usually get in stock. The grip in the dry and especially the wet was terrible - went and got them changed today as they had worn down to just above legal minimum. Got my favourite Continentals back on, cornering and takeoff is already much improved.

if you've got a choice of local tyre fitters, get a quote from 4 or 5 of them and remember to quote like for like. I did this and the locals beat the net hands down

£38 a tyre should be a pretty decent brand as the astra tyres are not normally very big. Go for a decent brand and pay a little more as they are so important in the safety aspect.

Thanks for all your advise. have just ordered some Bridgestone tyres from Etyres.co.uk and they are being fitted tomorrow - they were £50 more for the lot but I think that its worth it. Your comments got me thinking as we had a crash the other year when it was raining....got me wondering if it was to do with the tyres!!
Anyway, thanks again - really did appriciate it.

Bridgestone are a good make of tyre but next time if you want something cheaper look to pick up Firestone which is its slightly cheaper sibling but still a decent quality of tyre.

The best advice about buying cheapo tyres is don't. They don't last nearly as long as premium brands but, more importantly, they don't grip as well, particularly in the wet. I had a pair of Federals on the front of my old SAAB and it was all but impossile to pull away in the wet. Since then I've bought budget tyres on a few occasions and regretted it every time.

Even if you're still contemplating budget tyres always ask for the price of branded tyres- often they are only slightly more and might even be on some kind of offer.

I got some Kuhomo (sp?) last time for £40 a corner fitted and balanced .. I have to admit to being very impressed so far.
