Long curtains, should they cover the skirting?

I am looking to busy some long curtains in my new home. The length is 98 ins and at least 135 ins width made to measure. I am wondering whether it will look odd if I get two sets of 68 ins wide and 90 ins long or 90 ins wide and 90 ins for extra fullness. I will need to sets if I take this option, the other option is made to measure which will double the price. Also if I use the curtains length at 90 ins, it will be 8 ins short, will it look ugly if it shows the skirting board, the latter is very wide as it is a period house? I would appreciate some advice please, with made to measure, I cannot get the colour I want. Thanks

I think it would be a matter of personal choice really, more of a taste issue than anything. For me personally long curtains have to at least touch the floor and preferably puddle on it for my liking. I'm sure there are plenty of people though that do have them above the skirting board.0

They will look better if they reach the floor. I've just had some made and they do actually rest on the floor and look great.
In my previous house they were made to measure but the actual floor to ceiling height differered by about 1" from one side of the bay to the other. Those curtains always bugged me as one side reached the floor and the other didn't. My d-i-l bought some made to measures which don't reach the floor, probably by 8-10 inches, they look very wrong and she wishes she'd never bought them.
I would continue looking for the right colour and go with the made to measure. Have you tried Dunelm? Mine were from there, lovely quality, well made and cost only half what I paid at Rosebys for those in my old house 15 years ago.0 -
If its an old house they need to skirt the floor.
Buy as wide as possible so that there is still fullness when they are closed.
Lovely to look at and practical as they keep out the cold area around the window..make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Agree with floor length. Curtains that are 8" short will look odd.Herman - MP for all!0

I'd have a scout around for a seamstress that advertises or best of all ask friends, colleagues etc if they know anyone. A friend of mine found out that a lady a few doors down from her made curtains ands did a fabulous job and was a fraction of the price of any high street shop. I personally find Dunelm not all that cheap now. It used to be very but since it was sold off a couple of years ago it's been fairly normal high street prices.0

Why not go for ready made, as said before, Dunelm sell really good quality stuff and then get a seamstress to take them up.
My ones in my SR look perfect after i did this.
Probably cheaper in the long runmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Definitely skimming the floor. If you have uneven floors/ceilings etc as lots of old houses do, a pelmet will hide all manner of height differences.0
