Travelzoo have some cheap flights like Edinburgh to Paris or Madrid for £40 return http://uk.regional-departures.travelzoo.com/. They also have some good hotel deals too, so you could make a package for a lot less than £600. (remember in Europe hotels are priced per room ,not per person).
Barcelona or Venice would also be good.

If he's looking for something a bit cheaper Budapest is a nice destination.

If you're intent on a short break abroad, I'd check out the Top 20 deals on Travelzoo first of all.
I tend to find that the cheapest city break on the continent is Bruges followed by Amsterdam and Paris, but the cost of living when you get there is high.

Going back to Travelzoo, there's a great deal currently on there for Clontarf Castle near Dublin http://www.clontarfcastle.ie/ which also shows as live availability on the hotel's website and it's £60 DBB!!!

Venice is cheapest at this time of year - however its for a good reason - the Aqua Alto (or high water) can put bits of the city underwater. It is tidal, so does not last for more than a few hours but can restrict what is available to do.

A city I have enjoyed is Istanbul. Loads to see and do, and very different culturally.

Reims has a lovely Christmas market and is part of the champagne region - good excuse for sampling the stuff! Prague would be nice and cold and romantic at this time of year. Bruges is lovely with chocolate, waffles and beer to keep them occupied and warm. And Amsterdam too would be cheaper than during the high season.

Found this article which may help decide - here.
If you have nothing constructive to say just move along.

Krakow or Bruges, Krakow gains in points for being cheaper, no Euros.

Boss man away there tomorrow, and I've put him on to these people.

Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama ;)

Prague or benidorm would be my choice but this time of year loads of bargains, pop to your local travel agent and let them do the searching you'll be spoilt for choice. Let us know what he decides on.
