Surprise short break - suggestions please?

Son wants to take his girlfriend away for the weekend as a surprise for her birthday in a couple of weeks. He was thinking about Paris but it seems pretty expensive at around £600 ish for 2 for 3 nights.

He's now considering other places in the hope of getting away a bit cheaper but not sure where? Any suggestions please?

Have a look at Hunters Quay Hotel in Dunoon.

I came across it by accident today and it looks like an idyllic place to take someone away for, for a short break.

Scotland - You've got to be joking!!!!!

Best thing about Scotland is the M74 Southbound.

Try Italy - My favourite place in Europe.

it takes all sorts old fruit, it takes all sorts.

Personally, I'd much rather shortbreak in Scotland/rest of GB than europe everytime, but I can see why others think otherwise.

It does look nice but we live in the Highlands anyway so it's a bit 'samey' iyswim? I think he would like to take her somewhere further afield.

Lol, he's just back from working in Houston and was on a barge for long enough, I think he'd prefer dry land. :D

    I'm trying, I'm trying :j

favour for a favour, we're having a family holiday touring Texas next year and we're flying back from Houston. Besides from visiting NASA, are there any other 'must dos' in the Houston are that your son would recommend ?

Wish I could help but son saw very little of Houston as it was a work trip and he worked long hours. He had no time for visiting anywhere or even just walking around the place. He came back a little disappointed that he's travelled all that way and never got to see anything. The most he saw was the inside of a hotel apartment complex and a bus. Sorry Murph. :D

Personally I like Verona. Very romantic because of Romeo and Juliet connection and the option of day trips to Lake Garda or Venice if they have time.
