Does anyone know anything about fridges?
I've got a Hotpoint Iced Diamond larder fridge. I've just noticed that it isn't working (the light still works but that's it!).
I've pulled it out and noticed that there is a white plastic tray filled with mouldy scummy water above the black motor thingy (god I'm technical aren't I??)
Can that be removed and emptied, is that the problem?
I looked at the hotpoint website and they want something daft like £35 call out and a further £55 plus parts to fix it!!!
Help somebody!!!!! (pretty please!)

i have a larder fridge and yes you lift of the tray and clean it but look inside the fridge and you should see a hole which is a channel to the tray if that gets blocked the fridge wont work so find something thin and flexible and carefully push thro as far as you can and wiggle it about to unblock0

Thanks - I'll give that a go!0

Don`t think clearing out the drain will make any difference. Sounds to me like the thermostat or compressor. Both expensive repairs & if compressor then too expensive.0

Try unplugging it for about 15 mins. Set the thermostat to mid way, plug in and switch on. Then try rocking the fridge gently from side to side for a minute or two. That might work !0

Does it use a fan to blow the cold about? you might be able to start the fan spinning again by poking it with a pencil. If this is the cause it is only a temporary fix, You will need a new fan!

I have exactly the same fridge with exactly the same problem.Been like that for weeks now.I was gonna throw it out but will try some of the remedies suggested.0

Is the compressor motor running? If it isn't it could just be the stat. has gone which you can fix yourself, take the old one out take it to a place that does fridge bits and they will replace it. If the motor is running and it's not getting cold then throw it away and get a new one.Nothing to see here, move along.0

You must have a really strange fridge. The drain hole simply drains water from the fridge to an evaporation tray on top of the compressor. If it's blocked the worse that can happen is the water will collect in the bottom of the fridge. There is no mechanical or electrical connection between the drain hole and the operation of the fridge.0 -
i must have moonrakerz because thats what happens spooky or what?:D0
