I've just ordered a phone from 3, over the phone they told me i had a right to return the handset for 14 days after recieving this, but i had to return it unopened? Is this right, i thought i had a right to have a look at the phone properly and return it, though in good condition.
Otherwise i'll have to nip into a phone shop to have a good look at it before i open the box.

Firstly, not 100% sure, but,
For a full refund i am sure that it has to be unopened.
[STRIKE]For a change of handset, i.e. it doesn't suit your needs you can get an alternative if it is has been used, but you reported it within 14 days.[/STRIKE] See below.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0 -
3 won't take anything back thats been used in any way.
You have the right to return it under 14 days, but you don't have the right to test it for 14 day (yes, I know. . .).0 -
Last weekend I got a blackberry on Orange from Phones4U, but the reason I got the blackberry has gone (long story!), and I have just checked the Phones4U paperwork and it says they do not have a 14 cooling off period - can they do that???
Thanks

Of course they can.
You only get the cooling-off period if something was purchased over the internet or phone. That's distant selling regulations.
If you went into a shop and purchased a product, you had sufficient chance to inspect the product. Basically, it's not the fault of Phones 4U that you're indecisive.0
