Auris - stuck accelerator pedal
I have a new auris - I have only driven it locally so not at very high speeds.
Today however I was going on a faster road the accelerator got 'stuck' twice - i.e. it went down to the floor and then didn't come back up again - the first time I prodded it with my foot and it came back and didn't think much of it - but then a little while later it went down and wasn't coming back up - at this point I didn't really know what to do - I put on my warning lights and tried to brake - the brake wasn't very responsive and the car was basically accelerating and braking at the same time . The car made a lot of noise but I managed to pull into a layby and stop - then I noticed a burning smell. I was close to home so drove it home.
As it happened twice I thought something might be wrong with the accelerator but when I got out I looked at the floor mat and it seemed to have moved forward and thought maybe it got stuck in their, but then decided that the floor mat couldn't restrain the pedal. However according to this: http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5hX5vzre_1ZgnVSAl_jGmyHMBWRVAD9BOVDLG4

Though they seem to be all us based - anyone noticed any uk stories?

their is a video here explaining what to do but its for autos being an american site: http://blogs.abcnews.com/theworldnewser/2009/11/what-should-you-do-if-your-car-accelerates-out-of-control.htmlToyota recalled 3.8 million vehicles last month over problems with gas pedals that got stuck on floor mats and told owners to remove driver's side floor mats and not replace them until the automaker had determined a fix to the problem.

If only everything in life was as reliable as a Toyota:rolleyes:
Sorry, but just had to have a dig in the face of the jap car only brigade.
Truth is there are often designed in flaws with most new models, toyota and nissan and honda included.
Present your issues to the dealership and search out further on the owners website, good luck.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -

So maybe you need to spell that out
Which would you prefer, a Renailt with a duff speedo? or a Toyota with an accelarator with a mind of it's own?
No contest methinksI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

I had this happen to me in an old Carlton years ago. It was an organ pedal and got trapped behind a bit of loose trim. Very frightening until I worked out what was going on!
If it happens and you need to stop it's probably a good idea to take it out of gear so it doesn't try to keep accelerating while you brake. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
would turning the car off help?0

Like you say Bill it's a mechanical fault and really not a manufacturer specific issue.. They all get it wrong from time to time, read the reports:rolleyes:I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
