VoipCheap credit and numbers

Hello,
I am about to decide if put new credit on VoipCheap or open an entire new account. I have about 9 pounds on it now, but am not using almost any credit as all the call I make are to free destinations.

Two questions on it:

a) is it possible to get less than 10 pounds worth of credit and still keep your old credit (tomorrow it will expire)?
I saw today there is a kind of reseller program, but I am not sure if I can buy credit froma reseller and still keep the old for another 120 days).

b) opening a new account, is it possible to get a geographical (London, Brighton etc) VOIP number for UK? (the one I have now from VoipCheap is 056... i.e. non-geographical). I know I can get one with sipgate, but would like to have it with VopiCheap for convenience as I use that for calls and keep that open all the time.

Thanks

I have 23 days left before I have to top up again. When I first joined it only cost £5.00 had an email off them saying if I toped up before credit runs out I can keep what I have. I live in London and they gave me a London number. Hope this helps

You can always get more with a kind word and a 2-by-4 than with just a kind word.

One thing to remember with this group of companies is that their clock runs on central european time - so on the last day that your credit is valid you have up until 11pm uk time when you can still make calls.

I decided to renew the current number as I will use it a bit more now that they introduced the automatic call-back features and this allows me to use it also from behind restrictive firewalls.

For information: anyone in UK needs to top-it up with 11.60 pounds (10 GBP+ vat at 16%). Of these 10 pounds will become usable credit for calls.
    The validity is 120 days.
It is convenient to do the renewal on the last day (unless you need it earlier), as if you do earlier the credit will only have 120 days all the same.

Skint1, how did you manage to get a number for London? I registered with them in December 2005 and I think I applied for a VOIP number almost immediately. They gave me a 056, which is useless. Did you apply from dial-up or from braodband? (I did from broadband and it might not have recognised the uk location).

I am on BB and I joined just before Xmas 2005.I gave my home phone as contact not my mobile. Maybe that had something to do with it

You might wish to check out https://www.sipdiscount.com .... I beleive they are from the same company - they also offer calling in numbers, but you dont have a choice (although I'm in London i've been allocated a Lecister number).

I'm not sure about voip cheep, but sip discount allow you to use your own VOIP box (I'm using a Linksys PAP2).

Not sure if thats of any help - just might be worth checking out sipdiscount to see if it offers freedialing to other countries that voipcheep might not.

Has anyone made hardware to make any normal landline phone compatible with these broadband services yet?

yes chris they are call ATA devices for example grandstream handytone 486 and linksys PAP2. I hope it is acceptable for the forum to post a link to where one can order them from is http://www.broadbandstuff.co.uk/ if you want (can't do it this weekend but can do it during next week) if you order one of the ATA device and you give me your voipdiscount (say you join them but any of the group) username and password I can set it up, make a quick call to your number and than post it to you. Not that difficult to do it yourself through. The offer is there I would of offer a Grandstream 486 that my father got spare but he just sold it :-(

Cheers mate, I’m not ready to buy just yet, as I’m moving out early next month and looking at different options. May take you up on your offer though. Thanks

I opened a Voipcheap account recently and got a Glasgow landline number (I live in South Wales). I can't believe how complex the costs of these different services are, although Uk landline costs are free the other rates seem to vary enormously.
I can't see a way around paying £11.60 every 120 days to keep it useful as without credit you are limited to 1 minute calls. Voipdiscount and Sipdiscount have the same requirement.
