    DellCare just quoted me £75.

I rang Dell and they said £181!!!!!

I told them DellCare offered it for £75 and they suddenly said OK they can do it for £75!

They are offering £55 for 2 years or £75 for 3 years

These sound like great prices for laptop's.

For our desktop though, we managed to get a 3year upgrade from 90days for only £23 (back in january). Pretty sure it's not this Dellcare either.

Didn't have to phone anyone, they rang after the 90 days were up offering 3 years for £100 I think. Just keep saying you're not interested and the numbers keep falling.

Sounds like a great deal! My laptop was only £300 but pondering whether its worth paying the £75...

It just so happens that I work in IT Management for an organisation that has more than 10,000 notebooks just in the UK.

I would say that over a 3 year notebook lifetime (and we are buying corporate - ie more robust notebooks than the Inspiron - which is a home model) one of our notebooks has a 40-50% chance of needing an engineer visit.

The problem is, that it's not like a desktop PC, most of the main components are part of the motherboard, so if something small fails, the whole innards effectively need to be replaced.

    The main failures are:

    - Cracks in the motherboard: caused by people walking around with the PC's and holding them just with one hand. The PC case actually flexes - and with it the motherboard.

    - Disk Drives: the PC manufacturers try and get as much battery life as possible. Running a fan uses juice - so the fans cut in at quite a high internal temperature - which is normally quite close to the disk manufacturers highest operational temperature.

    - Screen hinges: The connector from the motherboard to the screen runs through the hinge. Over time, these hinges can seize up so that one day, when you open your screen, the screen opens and comes off in your hand - because the hinges have seized.

In my opinion, 25 quid a year to warranty against all that, is pretty good value.

I went for the 3 year warantee at £75.20. At least its 3 years peace of mind that I wont have anymore expense. I paid £300 for the laptop in Feb.

    Hi

I recommend is some haggling. I called Dell's warranty sales direct and they quoted me £105. I insisted that Dellcare offered me 3 years for £70. They eventually agreed (after some insistence it was £70 INCLUDING VAT). My CC has been charged £69.99

The 3 years took effect from this week, I bought an Inspiron 6000 in March.

Do these warranties cover accidental damage or is it just equipment failure?
