Evesham.com are very good and are often well reviewed in PC magazines.. They have branches in various parts of the country too. You can look at their ready-to-buy PCs in various price ranges or customise/configure any of the specifications to include/exclude what you want: https://www.evesham.com0

Btw wat processor, memory and hard disk is good?0 -
I bought a MESH computer last week , it has 4GB ram and dual core pentium D930 was in you price range. Had a bit of problems installing some software they helped on a Saturday! Or you could buy a PC on cashback from PCWOrld or Currys (they do some good dual core laptops for a couple of hundred more).0

Post 59! Will we get to 100?
Any modern PC will do the job. They are all fast, and faster than anything available 18months ago. The same goes for the disks. An 80Gb disk holds a vast amount of information. If you fill it up with loads of illegal DVD's and music downloaded from bittorrrent sites (it will hold a 1000 CD's worth of mp3's, or 16 DVD's), then a new bigger disk can be bought for £30.
Just make sure it has 512MB or more of ram.
You need to decide some basic things, and not worry about the spec too much:
Do you need office or will works or openoffice do?
Are the kids going to be playing games on it?
Do you need a DVD writer?
What size screen do you want.
Do you want to blow a couple of hundred quid on an extended warranty?
There really isn't much point spending vast amounts of money on it. The dual core turbo water cooled Terabyte machines with go faster stripes are for hard core gamers, not the average family who might want to surf, email, do a spreadsheet, play the odd game, and burn a DVD.
One thing I would suggest budgeting for is some Disk imaging software for backup. Ghost or Acronis. £30 well spent, because one day you will have a virus or corruption, and this will make recovery easy.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Thanks albertross
I think i need Office- because I need to type and do databases for work
games are important but not vital
dvd writer would be cool
a normal tft size screen is cool like 17'' or so0 -
Full blown office with access (if that's what you meant by databases?) isn't cheap.. It will probably add £200-250 to the price. More if you buy it afterwards..

What type of games, how old are the kids?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
