The BBC report states "Customers on BT's Together Option 1 package will see the cost of landline calls made between 6am to 8am rise from 5.5p per hour to 3p a minute."
This is wrong as calls are 5.5p for upto and hour, then 1p/min after that. It is also wrong because some callers may pay less for calls between 6am and 8am.
There is no 'peak' and 'off-peak' rate on BT Together. This is probably why BT refer to them as 'daytime' and 'evening and weekend' rates. If BT describe them as such, I would hope that Advertising Standards would see this as misleading.
Short evening and weekend calls now cost more than daytime ones. For daytime calls, a minimum of 5p applies. For e&w calls, they are 5.5p for up an hour. So a 1 second call in e&w is 5.5p and not 5p!
'Peak' and 'off-peak' descriptions applies to all other numbers.
BT and the telephone industry as a whole is IMO full of this confusion marketing. See http://www.the-scream.co.uk/forums/t12892.html.0 -
My calls at that time of day are still going to cost me a maximum of 1p.BT customers will have to pay more for early morning calls from 16 February.

But, BT will make inordinate amounts of profit from ill-informed clients by moving the goalposts yet againsomething missing0 -
no love lost here too..BT playing tricks with peoples minds but not playing tricks with mine, been using the 11886 number for a month now....massive savings, i think a lot of people are put of by the payment method but i think to many people have been using it for sometime without any problems.0

Telewest / NTL have had their peak times from 6am - 6pm for a while now - it was only a matter of time before BT followed suit. I'm with you lot on the 1p max charge!
Thanks 18866!0 -
Does anyone know if this will affect my early morning internet? I often go on between 7am and 8am.
I have had BT SurfTime Evening & Weekend Package for several years, which is usually the same times as off peak calls and costs me £7 a month.
Thanks.

No doubt that is why they are doing it to make extra money from 0845 and 0870 numbers.
As many firms now offer 24/7 services using 0845/0870 numbers and less using "proper" numbers the profits will grow!
So unless 18866 or others offer cut price 0845/0870 calls then BT wins again. It is about time the regualtors forced a price reduction in these, so they cost little or no more than a "proper" number.0 -
