No import fees due if package is marked as GIFT!

The OP does not want to receive a gift. They want to buy a gift. Import fees are due where applied. Don't post such crooked nonsense. The OP can save even more money by just stealing the boxset from a shop if that is their bent.
  • NCIS is £12.99 per season boxset on play.com (UK) at the moment

I doubt you will find "JAG" or "NCIS" cheaper from the U.S. than the offers you can find in the U.K.

Use http://www.find-dvd.co.uk to check which store is the cheapest for each season.

I would stay clear of dvdsetshop.com because no physical contact details on the website and they are from China so most likely copies. Not burned DVD-R copies but manufactured copies (fakes). I have a few of these box sets in my collection and although they are cheaper they are not as good as original releases, and they also sometimes don't have the special features that are extras on the DVD sets.
  • Thanks JAG, I think I will stick with getting from a UK site, especially after all the furore I caused about import tax!!

Have you tried Amazon.com? A lot of the stuff I have bought from there recently has been shipped from Germany rather than the US, so has not had any tax to pay. Not sure how they work it, but I cannot remember when I last paid import duties.

Amazon.com ship into Germany because it is where the main Europe hub is for their shipping agent. But you will still get caught by customs because the original source of import is the U.S.A.

When the packages go through the Royal Mail at Mount Pleasant they will check the customs declaration for the value which will be in US dollars and anything over £18 will be liable for import fees.

You may be lucky and it will get missed, but for the £8 Royal Mail fee and the 20% import fee it is not worth the risk.

Well all I can say is 12 orders in the last two years and I've been lucky every time so far then.
When the goods ship direct from the US I had to pay every time, but these are definitely being shipped from within the EU and they don't carry any indication of charges payable (normally there would be a label indicating the PO handling charge, plus any VAT and duty due).
