What should we be checking before signing for the car? Any tips and hints gratefully received.
Thanks in advance.

Look down the bodywork under strong light. If the paintwork carries swirl marks, reject it.
The paintwork should be perfect, with no marks or fine lines.0 -
Anything that they could claim is damage done by yourself that they could try and claim wasn't warranty work.
Paint, dings, scratches, dings on wheels and tyres, rips on the interior, damp carpets, cracked glass and lenses. Just take an extra few minutes to check it over.0 -
go here and right click, save picture as,then enlarge and print

and incase of trouble the name, address and telephone details of the salesman AKA scumbag that sold you the car. OK, that's a bit tough, but you may later know him by that termI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Also double check the vin number to the reg and log book. You'd be surprised at the number of times new cars are given the wrong reg number.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

Yeah, my mum picked up a brand new car and only noticed a couple of days later that it different numbers on the back and front!0 -
I know someone who was driving round in a honda Accord with the incorrect details on for 4 years! We only found this out when we did a HPi for the chap buying it. It has the wrong numberplates fitted from new. It was out by one digit0

The CO emmissions are correctly stated on the V5.
This isn't such a big deal, as it can be sorted out by you later if you spot it (I sorted mine by getting a letter from Vauxhall which I gave to the DVLA - saved me £5 this year) but if it's wrong it ought to be put right.
I'd be looking at the wheels for scuff marks, and the paint work for anything wrong. the body panels for any unevenness. The distance of all the joins between panels and doors/boot/bonnet is consistently the same and lined up parallel(sp?).0 -
at least as much trouble as buying a used one then???0
