Cancelling t-mobile contract?

Shamish
Shamish Posts: 330 Forumite
Phoned up t-mobile today to give up my 30 days notice requested my contract be transferred to pay as you go at the end of 30 days but was advised i'd have a £15 charge on that which would be credited to my t-mobile PAYG phone.

only wanting my line open for getting the code for transferring my phone number to a new phone. T-mobile advised me i could do that now but they'd charge me the rest of my contract roughly £35 to do this. But if i wait until 4th December when my contract is up get the code my contract will end there and i wont have to see out any notice with nothing to pay? Surely cant be true?

Anybody else able to advise better? Thanks
James

  • From everything I have read, your second paragraph is wrong.
Your contract will end 30 days after you are given the PAC code, or after they have accepted your cancellation.
The difference is that if you request a PAC code, you have 30 days to exercise it. Otherwise it lapses and you continue with your contract, or start another PAC request. But when your new service provider processes the PAC, the service from the old provider will stop, so you may lose some value.

If anyone knows different, please let us know.

They should not charge you for the pac code, as above, when it is used the contract will end. You will only be charged if you use the PAC code before your end date of your contract, in which cases they will charge for the remainder.

i.e. If your contract ends on 30th November, and use the PAC code with a new operator on the 25th November, you will be paying for 5 days for the new contract, but also be charged 5 days for the old contract.

There is overlap when using a PAC code as you need both contracts active during the PAC transfer process.

You do not cancel and request a PAC code, you do one or the other. If you don't use the pac the contract will carry on as before, if the contract is over then it will be on 30 day rolling.

There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies

    Thanks,

So if i wait until next month and then request the PAC code i will have another 30 days on to my contract then so basically paying a full month or will my contract the end straight away because i'm out of contract?

    Thanks

You will continue to pay for your contract until it is ended.

Your contract will be ended in 2 circumstances.

    1. You ask to cancel it, given upto 30 days it will come to an end.

    2. You have requested a PAC code, and used it. Once the number has transffered to your new simcard, 2-3 working days after giving it to your new operator. The old contract will end once the transfer is complete.
