Vouchers - general advice

Can anyone please advise re the validity of voucher expiry dates? I purchased a voucher back in Feb 2009 from Airkix for my brother to have sky dive experience. The voucher received has a "valid before" date of 26 Nov 2009. My brother has recently had an eye operation and has been advise not to take the sky dive experience until December. I have contacted Airkix who are asking £10 for a 3 month extention or £20 for a 6 month extention. Can they really insist on this additional payment? Are validity dates legally allowable when a voucher is purchased? What are my rights?

Yes, as long as it's in the T&Cs

Yes they are and you have no rights as long as the expiry date is on the voucher. They don't have to offer an extension at all.

  • What if the voucher has no reference to T&C's and no refernce to where they can be found?

sounds fair enough, he has had several months in which to use the voucher already, a tenner for an extention sounds sensible if you don't want to lose all your money. I can't think of any company who wouldn't have an expirey date on a voucher
  • Can anyone offer a legal viewpoint on this matter -- after-all it is a paid for voucher not a give away.

The legal viewpoint is that it clearly has an expiry date and you need to use it before that date.

Then you should have checked before parting with your cash

  • I think £10 to extend is a fair offer to cover their additional admin etc :)

    Their web page says:
Airkix does not offer refunds but will reschedule, transfer or extend vouchers for an administration fee.

I would argue that £10 is excessive, and the administration required to extend it 3 months or 6 months would be the same, so why the extra to extend it 6 months?

I would ask them for a break down of the £10 and £20 administration fee.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

perhaps this £10 may be a reflection of price increases eg, fuel, insurance etc? and not just admin costs
